Nice Waterproof heavy Sneaker
Great fitting shoe. Nice and waterproof. Fits great once you get it on. Very difficult to get this shoe on and off though. A little frustrating at times. I finally had to accept it is like a hiking boot. Lace ALL the way down to get it off. Then spend the time lacing up for a nice fit. Its not a boot though. Its a sneaker, Soft and malliable. Good for winter walking around. Nice looking shoe and well made. And of course the wonderful soft spongy Hoka One One sole that takes the load off my knees!

Too narrow, a little small, and hard to lace
I thought some of the other reviews were overblown but they are on the money. This boot runs too narrow. It's a little small overall, but even a 1/2 size up wouldn't fix the width issue for me. Others said it was hard to get this boot on, and I somewhat agree (because it's so narrow you have to unlace further than typical and the liner material could be smoother). If I were keeping this i'd probably swap these laces for a speed lacing system of some kind to try to get around that. The finish and quality look good. If you have a very narrow foot these are definitely worth trying! Did I mention that this is too narrow? :-)

Fantastic winter running/walking shoe

I am a 70 year old Wisconsin runner/walker. Used the Hoka Speedgoat Mid 2 GTX exclusively this winter. They are warm, provide great ankle support and have fantastic grip in snowy conditions. The .5 heel drop and neutral foot bed are ideal for me and greatly reduce ankle and leg fatigue on my 4 - 5 mile runs and walks. The shoes are pricey but well worth the investment if your running/walking in cold and snowy conditions.

My Favorite Hiking Shoe

I switched from lows to mids last year after twisting my ankle twice in the same month. I've hiked deserts, wilderness, rock, alpine and even some snow and I love these. Pros: The cushioning and ankle support is fantastic. The Gore-Tex waterproofing works well. They are super grippy on rock, similar to an approach shoe. They work great for scrambling and heavier backpacking loads. They are super light weight and very comfortable. My feet no longer feel so beat up after long hikes. Cons: The breath-ability is acceptable and they do feel a little warm in very hot weather however the Gore-Tex waterproofing is worth the trade off for me. The sole wears down fast but the grip is worth the trade off for me. There's some forward slip on steep descents but it is workable with dialing in lacing tightness and making sure you there is enough toe spacing, but not too much. These are not easy to slip on but it is workable by opening up the laces more. For 2022/23, these are 100% my favorite hiking and backpacking shoe, they are a game changer. It has taken me years to try a pair of Hoka's. Their comfort is legendary. I didn't listen because I always felt that Hoka's had an odd aesthetic design. Do your feet a favor and give them a try.

Way too narrow and tight

Got these since I love my Hoka trail running shoes and wanted that comfort to hike. These are very comfortable but I have same issue as others. They are way too tight in the toe box. They are very hard to even get your feet into them since they lace all the way up and don’t have any of the quick release open eyelets like most hiking boots. Sorry Hoka but you failed on these. I have Hoka 10 wides that fit great but even a 10.5 is too small for me. My gf is sold on hokas but the sizes are very inconsistent from model to model and you can never find the same model when your current pair wears out. Hoka you need some consistency in sizing.

Best ever

Bought these October 4th but waited till I had about 75 miles on them before I gave a review. Initially they seemed to cushiony but after 20 miles they seemed to form to my feet. Unlike other shoes after 7 miles of hiking the are no sore feet or knees. Being 70+ years that’s great. Can’t tell how waterproof they are yet not been any rain. First hike out of the box 6 miles no blister and not sore at all. Only complaint is they don’t give you much room to get your foot into the shoe, you have to unlace it some. As far as fit comfort best hiking shoes I have had and over 70 years I have had a few! Lol

Favorite speed hikers ever

These fit like a dream out of the box, and they might be more comfortable than a lot of my daily shoes. I hiked (most of) the 4k footers of New England in a pair of these and they never failed me. I'm a fast hiker, but these also saw quite a bit of trail running and rock scrambling. Comfort, weight, stability, traction were all fantastic. I also love the extra padding around the ankle. I see a lot of reviews griping about the lacing and difficulty getting these on and off, but it never bothered me. Might take a few extra seconds to loosen up the laces, but I think it's always worth taking a little more time to properly lace up your hikers.

Hoka One One Speedgoat mid

Hoka One One Speedgoat mid is the new light weight go to hiking shoe for me now. I had the early model Tor Tech mid no vibram sole worn out thoroughly. Tried the other comparable brand Altair zero drop thought that would be a contender but after trying it for several hikes I found zero drop was not a good fit, so Hoka One One Speedgoat gets my nod as a 30 year 64 year old hiker. I needed that full heal and thick cushion and the new vibram sole plus my preference of mid top. Walks around town to break in and 2 real hikes no doubt this will serve me well for many years to come.

Design flaw, but comfortable

I wanted to really love this boot, as it is very comfortable and light. But Hoka seems to be new at hiking boot designs, and while the shoe could be great, it has significant design flaws. The biggest problem was apparent today on its first use- on a Mt. Hood trail. The trail was quite sandy in places. When I got home, I noticed that both boots sounded like a baby rattle when I moved or shook them. I tried to shake the sand out, but it did not leave the boot. Eventually, I realized the sand was trapped between the inner and outer boot, because the fabric at the base of the tongue was not attached and sealed, but merely tucked in. This allowed sand to slip down and enter the space between the outer boot and the inner boot liner. This is especially bad, as the liner is Gortex- how long do you think the liner will be waterproof with trapped sand grinding against it? It took almost an hour to rig a vinyl tube to my vacuum to suck most of it out, then I used a hose nozzle to wash the rest out. The fabric was unattached on both sides of the tongue on both boots. Hoka, I hope you read this and improve the design. The less serious problem (so far) is that the laces simply go through eyes in the boot fabric- it looks like a weak design, and I would not be surprised to see eyes rip out before the boot is worn out. On the good side... it is incredibly comfortable and light.
