Love this bag.
When I first received this bag, and for the first few months of owning it, I also thought the straps were way too small; I could barely get it around any of my bike handlebars. I was able to get it to “fit”, but any decent bumping would knock it loose. It took a couple of months but I learned that looping it though the buckle gave me significantly more area to use on the velcro and it actually started staying on. I’ve used it on three different bikes; road, gravel, and mountain, and it works great now that I figured out how to use it. My partner who has several bikes has also used it successfully. For rides it fits my phone, keys, tool, and some snacks really well. I would’ve originally given this a 3/5 for the strap size but now I’d give it a solid 5/5.
Simple handlebar bag with fanny pack, I love it
I was looking for a simple handlebar bag for my phone, keys, bike lights, etc. that also became a fanny pack... and this bag is perfect. It's fairly small though (fits really well on my Small size frame) but if you wanted to fit more stuff, such as a spare tube or a pump, it might be a bit tight.
Yes.. it will not around your handlebars
Ok I know we are all at different stages of our cycling journey..but come on those who are saying the straps don't fit aren't putting it on right. I have a full suspension bike with 35mm handlebars (big) and it could honestly fit if I had 50-60mm bars. I routinely go downhill at 25mph with rocky terrain and this thing doesn't move at all. Seriously don't understand.. you have to just know how to properly use the standard straps. Before negatively reviewing a perfectly awesome product which has done well for me, I suggest customers take some time to think about the proper application of the straps.
Decent bag but could use some improvements
I bought this bag and the top-tube and seat Junction bags for a recent trip. It's a pretty basic bag but it definitely does the trick while looking ok too. The bag fills out nicely when it is packed up and I like the additional front zipper pocket. It's a great size and looks nice too. The handlebar attachments were just a little too close together for my taste and interfered with my bell and light but I was able to move them around to make things work. I think the junction line could be improved by switching the material to a waterproof rip stop for both look and function and replacing these zipper with a sealed or covered zipper.
Perfect front bar bag.
Perfect size for phone, food, extra tubes and tools.
Perfect size, great design, holds tight!
This is an excellent handlebar bag, sized just right -- big enough to fit my wallet/phone/keys/mask and maybe a light wind shell or a power bar, but small enough to just fit between my brake cables. And the hidden strap lets me use it as a waist pack or bandolier, on or off the bike. When you have your bike chained up you can easily detatch this and carry your stuff with you for security. The fairly substantial padding also gives me confidence that if I bang up against something (or go over the handlebars) the contents will be okay. Finally, to the people complaining that the straps are "too short" and the bag falls off ... you are attaching it incorrectly. It's not necessarily obvious, but you (1) open the velcro straps fully, (2) position the bag in front of your stem, (3) run the straps them BELOW your handlebar -- that's the key bit, (4) insert the straps through the buckle, and then (5) reattach the velcro to itself. This is as solid an attachment as I have seen. Once you've done it right once, you'll have no issues. This is my favorite handlebar bag of all time.
Nearly perfect
This is a really neat little bag, but has 2 flaws that prevent me from claiming that it's perfect. On the positive side, it attaches to a flat bar or drop bar trivially. [ well, I guess not so trivially. It seems some people can't figure out how to attach it. I found it simple and secure. Maybe REI should include pictures of how to install it, or maybe they're referring to a different bag. ] I keep a patch kit and phone in mine. Also, it has a strap so that you can treat it like a "sling", which I guess is a fad recently. However, it has 2 flaws. First, it's not quite long enough to fit most smart phones. You can fit one in the main pouch if you guide it in, however I would prefer keeping bike tools in the main pouch and my phone in the outside pouch where it won't get scratched. Unfortunately, this pouch is too small. Second, REI put a little tab next to one end of one zipper, making it easy to zip that direction, but failed to add one in the other 3 locations. This makes zipping a pain since there's no place to hold onto. Otherwise, a perfect little bag!
Nice solution for keeping your valuables
This is exactly as it shows in the photos - perfect for your valuable wallet, keys, etc. that you need to take with you when you leave your bike outside. I wouldn't use this for regular daily commuting though if you are also going to attach/detach it daily, since the straps are velcro, which will likely wear out quickly with so much use. I'll be using this for weekend rides, where I need to take my valuables with me into cafes, etc. mid-ride, and pair it with a stem bag as in the photo (no panniers), where I keep food, tools, and a light jacket.
Great hip bag/fanny pack/ waist bag
I went to REI looking for a different fanny pack and found this and thought it would make a perfect waist bag. I comfortably fits my iphone xr plus everything I feel like I need to carry with plenty of room to spare. I like that it stays put due to it's construction it doesn't droop or get weighted down by my phone. I love it. Have purchased several other bags lately and took them back because they just seemed too flimsy and would want to drop due to the wt of my phone. This stays in place and the construction is very durable and water resistant with very smooth, quality zippers. Am very pleased with my purchase and will be returning yet another waist bag today that I like but just is a tad too small.
Lovin this bag!
Wanted a bike bag for my handlebars that would keep my phone handy, and hold just a few essentials when I don’t need my bigger rear rack bag, and this just perfect! It fits well, and stays close to the frame. Others said it was hard to attach securely, but if you read the instructions, it works just fine…. attaching it is not intuitive so one needs to follow the instructions. It is perfect in my opinion.
