Customer Images
Wrong color is shown in photos.
The images of the "Dark Olive / Vintage Khaki" Keen Newport H2 sandals clearly show Tan soles and toe cups. The sandals I received have Dark Brown soles and toe cups. I thought the light Tan sandals would be different, a little funky, and a bit of a Desert Tan 'military look'. --- Very disappointed !
Falling apart after only one month
These sandals are very comfortable but are falling apart after only one month. The stretchy fabric which is just below the webbing material is starting to rip multiple places. This is very disappointing. My previous Keen sandals held up for several years of hard use and I loved them. I live overseas it is very difficult for me to find footwear for my large feet and too expensive to send back.
Quality Has Become Poor
This was my 4th pair of Newport H2s. I have been a fan of them for... hmmm must be 15 years. My other 3 pair have been bomber and seen fair abuse; only failing after the sole has worn through. Not this most recent pair. I had them for 15 months when the stitching on the heel strap blew out. This exposed the fact that there is no overlap of the webbing at that joint. (The inside of the foot where the heel strap meets the instep strap; creating a major weakness at a stress point). Not the first quality issue I have had with a Keen product in the last 4-5 years.
Not what they used to be
Had my first pair of Newport’s for 10 years and beat the heck out of them and they held up perfectly. Not a single stitch out of place. The only reason I had to get a new pair was because someone actually stole them when I left them outside to dry. My new pair were just as comfortable as my originals but almost immediately began to fall apart after minimal use. Stitching came loose, elastic material ripped and the soles on both sandals separated from the upper portions. REI customer service was great and replaced them at no charge but the same problems occurred again with the new pair. Also have a friend who I learned purchased the exact size and color as mine a year previous and had the same problems. That’s three new pairs that are absolutely nothing like the indestructible sandals of yore.
Good shoe
I bought my pair last spring. I’ve worn them daily since then. The heal strap of one is fraying. I’ve worn them hiking, around the house, around town, while doing yard work, whatever. They are my go to footwear. I live the closed toed. No more stubbed toes. Wore them to the beach yesterday. They did collect sand which was easily wShed out bit irritating. Even with the frayed heal strap, I’d still buy them again. I considered cutting those straps off because they still stay on my feet really well without it. Bottom line — if you have a fault that has been an issue and reported for so long and don’t fix it, you get only 3 stars for what otherwise, is a great product.
Odd size - "fit" information
I ordered 9.5 as a review said "runs small" These are really hard to get on - but once one they are extremely comfortable I can wear them with a medium weight wool sock or barefoot ( as I expected to do if it ever gets warm enough in Maine to get in the water) I have a pair of Keene bike sandals in size 8.5 that fit as well as these and are actually easier to get on. If I ever get to an REI store ( nearest is Reading MA) and they have these I will try them in a size 10 which would usually be way too big.
Killed the golden goose
I have bought and owned well over a dozen of the H2 sandals since they came out with them and I believe the water sandals are what made Keen what it has become. Unfortunately their quality control in the last few years has suffered dramatically. Back when they assembled their shoes in Oregon the sandals would last years before falling apart. Now I can’t get them to last a year before the stitching near the heel comes undone. Unfortunately there isn’t much competition yet for their patented design of closed toe hiking water sandals so I’ve had to spend more money having a shoe repair stitch the heels before they come undone and ruin the neoprene. As soon as I find an alternative I’ll definitely jump since Keen has killed their golden goose which used to be quality.
Great fit - soles did not last.
Have owned two pairs of the Newport H2s. Bought one at REI, the other at Duluth. The fit is terrific. However both pairs the two layers of the sole came apart after a couple years of seasonal wear. Tried Shoo-goo-ing them back together but that only lasted a few months. Again, moderate wear, no super long hikes, but they did get wet a lot. Other reviewers reported the same thing, a couple reviewers actually took them to the Keen store here in Portland to no avail. I'm not willing to give them another try.
Failed Stitches
This is second pair that same stitch has come apart in short period. Last pair I had repaired locally at my expense. Here I am again.
Awesome Sandal
It was perfect for my trip to Orlando. Very comfortable for walking all day.
