Mountain Equipment’s version of the Patagonia R1
This is essentially Mountain Equipment’s answer to the Patagonia R1 (I have both). Really enjoy it so far, great comfy fabric, breathes well, yet does keep me warm. Quite long in the torso, so it stays underneath my climbing harness well and covers my waist even when I’m reaching up high for a hold or to place a piece of protection. The fitment is a very athletic, euro-centric, skinny hipster fit. To give you an idea, I’m 5’10” and have an athletic/stocky build — I purchased a size large, and while not an uncomfortably yoga pants tight, it is still quite body hugging (whereas the R1 size large remains somewhat loose around the torso). I’m not terribly plussed by the whole zipper arrangement leaning off to the side, don’t really see any positive of negative to it, seems to be purely aesthetic. I’ve used this both as a base layer and as as second layer about a tshirt, and it works fine in both cases; would just mention that with how body hugging the fit is, the tshirt I use also has to be somewhat athletic in cut, otherwise if it were too baggy, the material would bunch up with this piece worn over it. Overall, really enjoying this piece in my toolbox of layers.
Awesome shirt
Great shirt. I really like how the zippers goes to the side around your face so that you can comfortably wear it as a balaclava. It's ideal for climbing/mountaineering or hiking. There is plenty of room under the arms and around the shoulder which allow you to raise your arms above your head without having the shirt rise. The shirt is also longer in the torso which makes it more comfortable to wear with a harness. The different color fabric on the face and under the arms is actually a lighter weight fabric which breathes much better where you need it. Sizing: Size up one size. I'm 5'9" 179 lbs 41" chest. Athletic/muscular build. I normally wear size medium shirts. I bought the large and it fits very well. Tighter, but not too tight that it looks odd.
Great Hoodie!
This hoodie has a very good design to be used as a main piece in a cooler or changing weather or as a layer. It is great for climbing as it is stretchable, comfy and warm for the multi-pitch belays. It is made accurate to size - I read a review below and ordered a medium following the suggestion. When I tried it out, it was not fitting snug for an activity and I had to order a size down - small as I initially wanted.
Runs small but great quality.
I normally wear large sized jackets and shirts. After reading some of the previous reviews I decided to move up to an extra large and it fits perfect. Very comfortable and the stretch is impressive.
Runs Super Tight
Really snug - looked big in store, pulled it on and it squeezed. Buying two sizes larger than normal.
