Designed to fit on most vehicles with roof racks. The general rule of thumb is to make sure that your rack has a Dynamic Weight Capacity of at least the weight of the tent. This is the weight that the rack can physically carry while the vehicle is in motion. However, you should check your manufacturer's roof rack system to ensure it will support the weight of the tent.

Withstood an alpine hail storm at 12k ft in CO

I was originally skeptical of this product because the older version had issues with water leakage in both the rain fly and the tent body itself. After doing some research I decided to take a chance on Yakima’s new HD version. It was very competitively priced, light weight, and had the quick release knobs for easy installation/removal. I don’t leave it on my truck when it is not in use so the weight and ease of removal are important to me. Ordering from REI was easy and the tent arrived within 5 days. Initial install was relatively easy. One issue I ran into during initial installation, however, was that the Yakima clamps are not universal and are designed to work with Yakima, Thule, or Rhino aero bars (comes with adapter to work with round bars too). My truck’s bed rack bars were too wide so the Yakima clamps would not secure the tent to the rack. Easily fixed by bolting some unistrut to my bed rack and mounting it to that, but annoying nonetheless. Mounting the tent to my truck bed is simple enough and can be done with one person in about 15-20 minutes, but can be much easier be done in 10 min tops with two people. Removal is just as easy. Two people are probably necessary to mount to a vehicles roof. The locking clamps are also a great security feature to help prevent theft when you are not around the vehicle. After having taken this tent out on two camping trips, I am very happy with the the quality and performance of the tent. First trip was around 10k ft in elevation and the second was around 12.5k in elevation. Probably the most impressive aspect of the tent was how well it stoop up to an alpine hail storm with 30-40 mph gusts at 12500 ft. Hail was pea sized or smaller luckily, but no damage whatsoever to the tent and not a drop of rain inside. Rain persisted for a few hours and the rain fly held up great. Strong wind meant the rain was coming in sideways onto the tent body and still no water inside. The strong winds continued throughout the night and the rain fly/ tent body held up excellently. I was very impressed with how quiet the tent was in the wind with the rain fly tightened down. Zipping up all the windows retains heat much better than I expected and keeps with tent very warm in 30-40 degree weather at night. Likewise, unzipping them creates an excellent draft to cool things off during the day. The sky window is a neat feature, but not very good for stargazing at night. Unfortunately the clear plastic distorts the view too much to really see anything but the brightest stars. Great for looking around during the day though. Bug nets all worked very well too. I think the mattress is just a little too firm, but a $25 investment in a memory foam topper should do just the trick. Overall I would highly recommend this product as a four-season tent that can absolutely stand up to the elements.

VERY NICE TENT AT A REASONABLE PRICE

I had a Maggiolina hard shell tent before. It was a very high price unit. It fell short in the fact it was really heavy, about 40 lbs more than this tent and my wife found it claustrophobic. I tried a variety of different roof top units, particularly in South Africa, where I go for work as a Geologist. I really had no issues with any of them, just minor details. This tent was very low priced in comparison and seems to actually not leak in the rain, according to other users as well. The manufacturer actually spent some time sealing the tent. It shows, you can see how nice a job they did inside. I also like the fact it is a very light tent. So it is reasonable to mount to my Range Rover which is slightly tall. It also, in spite of the Yakima configurator saying it does not fit, actually fits just fine to my Land Rover factory accessory tracks & crossbars. It really does stow away a lot easier than almost all the tents I have had, including the hard shell tent. A couple of items that make set up a lot easier is one of the small steps (I got on ebay for $9) that hook to the door lock on the car. Makes accessing the straps a breeze (unless you are NBA basketball eligible). Getting an LED strip light, either Yakima's or or one of the many on Amazon. They really do a nice job of illuminating the tent and can stay up on the top bar with velcro. My only gripe was putting the tension rods for the rainfly. It was not intuitive. After a few attempts ending in confusion and then looking directly at the hole. I realized you need to start there and slide the rod into the hole about ½" or so, then hook it to the rainfly grommet. The Yakima shoe bag is nice, but I have some mesh bags I hang with a tiny carabiner. I learned, after years in Africa, never leave you shoes on the ground. I have found all kinds of interesting insects in them in the morning. One of the gear hammocks are nice as well for the peak of the tent to store all that loose stuff in your pockets. I have a tendency to leave all kinds of stuff in the side pockets, only to discover them the next season. The overhead hammocks makes it hard to forget. You really can feel stupid if you leave your keys up there and stow the tent, only to have to open it again so you can drive away. Nice tent, reasonable pricing, well made, not noisy when mounted near the rear of your roof. Good value, nice construction.

Awesome Mobile Tent

I have one 4 day use on it so far. It wasn't too bad to assemble but it is heavy to install alone, which I did, get a friend to help really. Setup and closing it up becomes pretty quick after a few goes, I practiced at home before taking it out. The doorway is a snug fit to get out of and onto the ladder as a 6ft 210lb guy. The mattress is firm but comfortable. My only real gripe is the rainfly tension poles, the plastic tip popped off and tore a hole in the rainfly, not too happy about that. Otherwise I love the tent
