This jacket resists dog teeth, any branches, rocks and hard use. I've had it now for about 4-5 years and love it. Waterproof and useful pit-zips for ventilation or reaching my down jacket pockets under it. The cuff closures are great and the hood is slightly lined at the neck for comfort. I'm buying one for my husband this Christmas and wish it were on outlet sale like the women's is! Writing a review now because it really deserves one. The only thing I wish it has was a stow-away zip for the hood. It runs wider in the torso, but that's fine for the jacket underneath. I'm 5'4", 122lbs and typically wear small. I bought the small and it hits at hips.
Need help! In New Zealand for a month with 10yr old Beta AR now falling apart at bottom with next 3 wks to go being more challenging.. Able to buy duct tape today and place around bottom edge to keep drawcord in place. Brought this instead of hybrid light. Please email me if you receive this- have pictures. Bought at Salt Lake City REI autumn 2007. Wore this all over while living in Alaska.
There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing. I love to walk outside, being outdoors, being in nature. The beta AR really lives up to the expectation, there's no excuse to not go outside. It keeps me dry, when I wear a down jacket underneath it, it is comfortable, durable, it is a great jacket. Highly recommended!
I bought the jacket 5 years ago, the Jacket accompanied with me to several times of outdoors atctivies. No matter windy, snowy or rainy day, it can help you overcame both of them and support me to reaching my full potential. I highly recommend the Jacket for you.
There’s no doubt that this jacket is top of the line construction. I was looking for a lightweight, durable, and super waterproof shell jacket for resort and backcountry skiing. The jacket fits well with lighter-weight under layers, but it is too snug with thicker under layers like the Arc’teryx Thorium AR jacket. Additionally, the length is too short for what I was looking for (the Thorium jacket peeks out from underneath). Overall, this jacket is better suited for other endeavors where using puffy under layers is less needed and length is less important. For reference, I am 5’4 and almost always wear size small jackets. Most jackets tend to fit on the longer side for me.
Debating keeping this jacket. I like everything, but the fact that the Internal pocket is not big enough for and iPhone 6 or s8+. That only leaves hand pockets for cell phone, or pants pockets which is too awkward for climbing or skiing. No reason they couldn't have made the pocket entrance bigger. If I hold my phone up to the pocket it looks like it would fit, but as the zipper is only 3/4 of the way across in the middle there is no way to get it in. I'm worried the other models of the jackets would be the same.
Love this jacket! True to it's name, its an all-round great piece. From hiking to snowboarding to general day use this jacket is perfect for them all. Nice length, great hood, and of course super waterproof! I bought an xl so its roomy enough for layers but it's not too baggy to be worn on its own. Best of all, doesn't feel like a sticky garbage bag when you get your sweat on : )
Best jacket I ever had - loved the fit and functionality for biking and the annual skiing trip. Really sad it only lasts 2-3 years as the layers are now peeling and waterproofness is gone. I expected more from Arcteryx making the most expensive jackets in the business. Great functionality but not made to last - even just with mild use.
(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) I've taken this jacket out in some horrible conditions and it always keeps me dry. It also breathes well enough to travel uphill. My only problem is that I notice that it stains easily. I have marks from sunscreen around the collar and other scuffs from use that will not come off.
(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Bought this jacket in preparation for our hiking of the O Circuit of the Torres del Paine in Patagonia and used it on a recent hike in BC .. it poured rain the entire hike up and I stayed DRY!
