Disappointed

I have decades-old, quite similar in design Keen's, and decided to go for a backup. Spotted this model, which looks VERY close to mine. Even ordered a size larger, just in case. I found a few things to like - waterproofness, rugged grippy sole, uppers, and color (ordered the gray leather upper with black sole). Found a few things that forced me to decide to return them.... Let's start with the pull toggle laces - less than an inch exposed out of the box, and when put on and lacing pulled, maybe less than an inch and a half; could not feel securely tightened, nor really able to grasp to pull well. Then the "fit" - ordered a full size larger, yet these felt somehow tighter at the footbox. Indeed my old Keen's had more big-toe room to the side and somehow felt a bit longer. Finally the "comfort" - my old Keens had a mesh of some synthetic fabric under the leather upper "fingers", these had what felt like a thin neoprene layer that seemed not to breathe but instead to cling and hold to my socks, scrubbing them across the top of my foot. I tried with thick winter socks, hiking socks, and everyday socks, and each felt like they were sanding my foot. The inner surface of the new Keen is also patterned, maybe to manage water, but served to make the shoe feel a bit uncomfortable for a long walk; again grippy rubbing feeling. Note: I walked about 7 miles with each type of sock in the order listed, trying to understand why I felt such discomfort and what would "make it better". The mesh of my old Keens did no such thing, nor did its insert, instead giving a feeling of gentle cushioned retention at the top and bottom of my foot.

Fashion Over Function

Not like the originals. Decided, after the third thorn-through-the-sole-into-my-foot episode (cat claw, pom and citrus and boouganvilla branches) that these had to go. They look spiffy, and are comfy with cotton socks. However, barefoot or with quick-dry socks, my feet sweat, stink and slide around. Sturdy, they are not. Unlike the original ( about 10 oz heavier), this is more of a neoprene sock with holes cut in it and low grade leather straps and sole foam/plastic sewn and glued in place. Consequently, it feels mushy, and in stream walking, pebbles do not clear out the sides - the vents are cuffed at the bottom with neoprene. Sand and stones get stuck. My originals lasted 15 years in all kinds of weather and conditions. Only reason I'm replacing them is that I've worn the sole too smooth!

Quality has gone to ZERO

The quality of these sandals in terms of durability has completely cratered. I used these for the first item in Feb of 2024 for a 2 week trip to the Philippines. Afterwards they sat in the closet until May of 2024. I have worn them every day from May until today which is August 15th 2024. Within a couple of weeks the tread had completely worn away and as of today there is a hole that has worn through the sole of the sandal. They are ready for the dumpster. Additionally, the traction is terrible. These are supposed to be river shoes, however as soon as they get wet they are dangerously slippery on any rock. I have a chip in a tooth after a fall that demonstrates this to great effect. The previous pair I had lasted for 10 years. I will never purchase Keen products again.

Labelled wrong size

I bought my first Keen back in 2017 and love It, size 8 fit perfectly well and so comfy but this Targhee is a disappointment.

Because of inferior bungee lace it won't last long

Long time Keen fan. I have and had many sandals and boots. This sandal is lighter than the Newport, which I have always loved and use them until sole markings and inside neoprene are gone, but these clearly won't last that long. The bungee lace is significant inferior than any other sandal I ever had. I less than a month of use and it is already stretched and is thinning at the lock, which is hanging by the toe. Given its closed loop I don't think it can be replaced. Very sad and regret buying. Wouldn't recommend.

Comfortable and so far durable.

I bought these in April 2023 and have been wearing them almost every day for almost 6 months. For whatever reason these are the most comfortable "shoes" I have worn. I know they are sandals but I am lucky enough at my job that these are completely acceptable. (I normally wear Salmon Ultra X4 as my everyday shoe). I have also been on several hikes with them in all types of terrain, steep, loose, rocky, wet and so on... so far my biggest hike in them has been about 10 miles (15km). So far no issues with wear or durability. I am not sure if others will have the same positive results as I have but for me these have , surprising, been the most comfortable footwear I have tried. Improved sandals

These are much lighter than all my previous keen sandals. Which provides a whole different feel from the older styles. The front doesn’t have the bulky feel but still provides some toe protection. One main reason for my purchase was the rear heel coverage, which i do enjoy. I have been using them as an everyday sandal and so far have not much outdoor events with them.

Nice, but a little warm

I was excited to get these, as I wear orthotics and most sandals have an “open-heel” design that lets the orthotic slip out as you walk. These have the heel fully covered. They are comfortable and light weight. My only complaint is that my feet seem to sweat more in these than my other sandals. I don’t know if it is because they are waterproof, or don’t allow as much air to circulate, or perhaps both. I anticipate that I will get a lot of use out of these for long walks where I want the orthotic support. I have just been wearing them about a week.

Nice shoes, however cannot recommend.

These are comfortable and easy to wear. I've really enjoyed them. However I am very disappointed in the sole delamination. I bought these shoes July 2022 and they are coming apart.

Cooler feet for summer!

Have several friends who swear by these; so, decided to give them a try. Only a few weeks in, but I have no real complaints. Only reason for four stars is the lack of time with them. I do not anticipate being unhappy at all. So far they are comfortable and supportive. Not sure how much I like the lacing system, but I'll get used to it (just like getting a new car and having to learn where the buttons are; once you learn you forget there was ever an issue). One note about size. I wear 9.5 or 10; so, trying on shoes is important. My REI didn't have the Targhee IIIs in stock. I tried on other Keens for fit. When the Targhee IIIs came in the mail, they were true to size with other Keens I tried. I appreciate that consistency!
