Way too big!!
I read the other reviews but didn’t believe it. This phot shows one of my (adult Womens size 9) socks, this kids sock size small, and a different brand’s kid sock of the same size. My kid has a lot of growing to do!
Comfortable and sturdy
My son really likes these socks. They are comfortable and warm, have washed well, and seem like they will hold up to the life of an active child. These are warm but not quite as thick as some other brands we have, which works for us because these don't make his toes sweat (his words, not mine). They ARE thicker than standard children's socks, so don't mistake my statement above thinking you are getting thin socks - just a normal hiking weight. I would like to see some additional colors!
Pretty Decent Socks
These are some pretty great socks. My daughter says she would give them 7.5 out of 10. They are warm and comfortable, but a bit itchy at first. She says you get used to the itchi-ness. They definitely kept her feet warm in 20 degree weather and they are thin enough she can wear them with tennis shoes, too.
Not Durable. Holes - less than two years.
These socks are not durable at all whats so ever. We purchased probably five pair with hopes of having nice socks for our son for hiking and warm socks for the winter. ALL of them have holes in the heels. Our son does not even wear them the whole year. They lasted less than two years. We wear slippers while at home. Get another brand that has a lifetime or two year warranty. When new they seemed to be acceptable, but nah...
Size chart way off!
The socks look fine… but be prepared for sizing to be totally off. The socks were huge and I ordered based off of the size chart. The XS could almost fit me, and I wear a women’s size 8.
Good value
True to size, durable, comfortable, make sure to drip dry to avoid shrinkage.
Size chart
I really wish REI was more specific with their size chart. It shows shoe sizes but does not specify exact measurements.
Keep my feet blister free
Love the feel of Merino wool. Wicks moisture away keeping feet dry and preventing blisters. It also keeps feet warm in wet/cold conditions. Socks fit well and the elastic kept the sock in place.
Sizing is WAY off
I was super excited for my son to get socks just like Dad. Unfortunately these socks fall down on almost all fronts. The good, they are good quality wool and seem like they will last . The bad, these socks are in no way designed for an actual child's foot, it's like "Pink it and shrink it" came the children's department. My son wears a size 12 which is at the bottom of this socks range, however the "heel" of the sock comes almost up to his lower calf. On top of that they are much too wide, its like REI decided that if they made the top shorter, they would all of a sudden have socks that fit a child. These socks are so mis-sized that they actually fit my wife (who is a women's 9) better than they fit my 5 year old. Overall an unfortunate miss for REI. Especially when other companies have some great products that hit the mark.
Worth the money.
Great sock, comfortable, good price, long lasting!
