I find these socks to be the right thickness for summer hiking, i have the rei light cushion socks which in my opinion are way to thick for summer, but I really love how the cool Max fit, and i have tried darn tough, merino wool, and they felt like they were cutting off the circulation to my feet that I had to return them....so 2 thumbs up for the rei cool Max socks

The worst I've ever bought from REI

I've always bought my hiking socks from REI.  First the Thorlo brand they used to carry then the REI brand.  Not just for hiking, but all the time in the winter with boots and indoors with slippers.  I guess it's been 2-3 years since I bought new socks since they last forever.  I bought 3 pairs of these, wore 1, and the other 2 are going back.  These socks feel very thin and cheap.  I wear a size small (4-6.5) since I am a size 5.  Always a perfect fit in the past.  These socks aren't too long.  They fit fine through the heel and length of my foot.  However, the socks balloon out in the toe area.  They're baggy and completely unsupportive.  I would need duck-shaped feet to fill out the toe! So, I cannot recommend these and will look a different brand going forward

Two distinct lengths for these socks

I love this sock, and as a vegan, have been buying many pairs over the years. But the length of the sock comes in two distinct sizes now, but they are considered the same sock by REI. I have added a photo to show this issue. I could only find a size L in the store for comparison, but even this L size comes with a shorter top part than the S sizes which have the longer top lengths—I much prefer the shorter ones, crew but not quite quarter length. So I had to return the socks. There seems to be no way of designating shorter vs longer version.

Not the same as before

These socks are not the same as previous purchased. The workmanship is not as good and they are not as snug fitting even though they are the same size.

Way too big!

If these had been the right size I would have given them 5 stars… I’m an adult female with a shoe size 7 so I got mediums as suggested in the sizing guide. I ended up giving them to my son who wears size 12 shoes. He loves them and thinks they are the perfect size for him… lol

Great Sock but a tad Large

Just purchased these last week and wore them for a 7 hour hike this weekend.. they're the perfect weight for fall or early winter hiking but if you're in-between sizes, I would take the smaller size. I'm a 9.5 -10.5 size shoe (depending on street shoe, hiking shoe, or running shoe) and the large sock moved and bunched up on me a little during the hike. I'll keep the large for casual wear or small hikes but I definitely need a medium for longer hikes to avoid rubbing from bunched up fabric.

Fine socks, no issues.

I had bought a pair of these previously for day hiking and liked them. I usually wear a layer under any socks when hiking. And so I do that for these as well. I do feel like the recent pair I bought might be better quality. It feels a little nicer and the knit looks tighter than on my other pair. I am not sure if they are better or wore than other socks, they do the job for me and I had got a second pair since they were on sale. For the price, I have no issues.

run big

The socks run big, I wear a women’s 9 and went based off the size chart so I ordered medium. They were way too big and I had to return. I ordered a small and they are perfect.

Inconsistent sizing

I returned the Castlerock color because it was at least 2 inches longer than the same size of the Larkspur color. They looked like they would be way too long.

Great alternative for wool socks

These socks are great for hiking. I cannot wear anything with wool in them, so these are a great alternative. Have had several pairs and love them.
