Outside Inside  Basecamp Chess/Checkers

Great addition to the backpack. My son and I play chess and checkers qith this set on our trips. I pack relatively ultralight, so I typically have plenty of space in my 58 liter pack to take this. The magnetic bottoms make slight scratches in the board when the pieces are slid (not picked up), but i don't anticipate this to be overly detrimental to the usefulness of the board.

This is a really good chess/checkers set! I like how they labeled the squares with letters and numbers. My only complaint is that I noticed in the instructions for the game of chess that they have the pieces set up backwards. The white pieces are shown on the 7th and 8th ranks and the black pieces are shown on the 1st and 2nd ranks. This is supposed to be the other way around. This may not seem like a big deal to people who aren’t real interested in the game, but I’m sure that serious chess players will notice this and say the same thing. Other than that it’s a really good set that I would recommend to any chess/checkers players to travel with!

I bought this for my preteen when he started going Boy Scout camping. It was a hit, and he has since decided that this is something he always wants in his daypack for hikes, camping trips, and track events. The magnetic pieces stay put so you can play almost everywhere and it's easy to pack. At the last camping trip he organized a chess tournament, and managed to finally lose a pawn. Luckily, GSI customer service is amazing and a replacement piece is on its way!

Great traveling chess set. My only critique is that once open, the board should have a function to lock it open, which it currently does not.

Comfortable size and durable. My son and I have played a dozen games on this and both really enjoy the quality. Doesn’t have a strong magnetic feel, but can actually hold the pieces if the board is tilted upside down. I like being able to ditch the electronics/screens and enjoy two things I love (outdoors and chess) where previously we would play digitally and lost the enchantment of the outdoors in having emails and texts a little too close Great gift for the outdoorsman/chess player.

nice size and magnetic board. take out the checkers and you can fit a deck of cards in the case. i mean who plays checkers anymore?

I love this compact little game that I can throw in my camping plastic tub for car camping, or in the top box on my motorcycle. Didn't actually use the game on the 1st camping trip after I bought it, but I've got it now. Can just as easily use it in the house too!

My son and I use this set to play chess at home, while camping, and on the plane. It’s well sized, pieces are clearly defined with magnets securing them to the board, and the board folds and snaps to hold the pieces in between. The storage sack provides added security. Overall I highly recommend!

I bought this item as an impulse buy but I am 100% satisfied with this purchase. I just recently started playing chess in the last year and being able to carry this around on any occasion. If I'm floating on the river or if I'm just playing at home or the bar with a friend. I get my fix.

I bought this set for using at my desk since I’m playing too much online. It is perfect. I love to design of the pieces and the texture of the board. it’s a perfect take anywhere set!
