staple item of clothing for 2,100+ miles
10/10 recommend this top. I carried it for my entire AT thru hike- slept in it in the warmer weather, hiked in it in the colder weather. It is super durable & good at helping to regulate body temp.
Perfection
This lightweight hoodie is so soft, breathable, wicking, and just the BEST... I'm bummed they discontinued it because I wore mine for a week straight and it took some wear and tear, but I'll be keeping it until it's in shreds :)
Cool comfortable cute sun protection
This is now my go to backpacking shirt! I wore it on a 3 day trip in Yosemite ~7K elevation and 80+ sunny days. No sun burns, relief from those annoying gnats buzzing in my ears! (I pretreated with Premethrin Spray and was the only one in my group who didn't have a problem with mosquitos either.) The best bonus was not worrying about polluting water sources with excess bugspray and sunscreen...you don't need it when you where this shirt!
Excellent, but size up
I recommend sizing up. It's a little tight in the armpits and the sleeves are a little shorter than I prefer. I purchased a small (my regular size in Patagonia) and I kinda wish I had gone with a medium. Other than that I love the shirt. It kept me very cool and protected on a multiday backpacking trip. It's also very flattering and comfy. I was able to wear it multiple times and didn't have to pack more clothes than I needed to, a win in my book. Lightweight fabric and it dries VERY fast. As with all my Patagonia gear I know it will be years before I need to replace it and I may even buy another one.
Light, great coverage and no snagging!
Great coverage on sunny/hot days or when you have a lot of reflection from the snow. Feels super light on the body too. I've used this hoody for a year now glacier mountaineering, sport climbing on granite, scrambling, backpacking and on regular day hikes. No snagging on rocks or pilling with big packs which is a huge pro. Slight con is that I used to be able to wear it for multiple days without it smelling but now after one long day, it smells pretty musky and needs a wash :D Highly recommend!
good sun protection and soft
I put this to the test during a March trip to Belize. I didn’t find out until I got back that the UPF is not reliably rated; I assumed it was UPF50. It kept my Philly winter paleness protected and I came back from a week of hiking around in 98° tropical sunshine with the same sickly cave-dweller complexion I had when I left, no sunscreen needed. I never felt bogged down by the fabric in the heat. I usually need an XS in tank tops and S or M in sleeved shirts due to my broad shoulders and long arms. I bought M and it fit great. Very happy with this purchase.
Solid Sun Shirt
This is my go to shirt! I have the yellow one and it’s not a solid color but more heather. It’s protective and I take it for hiking and climbing. The fit is great and no complaints with the hood (it fits over my helmet, although I’d rather wear the hood under the helmet). Keeps me cool and protected, even on some of the blistering days. The only downside with this shirt is with the yellow color. If you accidentally swipe your adventure-stained hands on the shirt, the stains stay on. It is posible that I am not cleaning it properly (I don’t do anything special - just throw it in the wash). If that’s a concern of yours, this shirt might not be for you. But other than that, a solid sun shirt!
Keep me cool at 100+ temp in Grand Canyon
This top does exactly what it advertises to do - keep you cool and acts as a sun blocker. Just returned from a six days Grand Canyon backpacking trip where the day time temp at the bottom canyon ranged from 87-102. This was the hiking shirt I wore every day. Whenever I had access to a creek, I dampened this shirt and I immediately got the icy cold sensation. The rest of time, I stayed cool. I’d wash this shirt at the end of the day and it’d be dry in less than an hour. Surprisingly, it also provides ample warmth. In the pre-dawn 50-60 temps, I just needed to layer it with another quick dry short sleeve T-shirt on top. It’s a perfect shirt for outdoor activities in sunny, dry heat condition. I’ve yet to test it in humid hot conditions. Im 5’2”, 106 lb, size S
So Cool.
This hoodie is absolutely perfect for summer activities. I have 2 and live in them all summer. Perfect for hiking, cycling, climbing on hot summer days. The materials is soft, doesn't pill, and keeps you cool. Plus, built-in sun protection!! In tops I'm usually a size 6 or 8, and I have both a small and medium in this hoodie. The medium is a more comfortable, baggy fit while the small is a little more fitted at the shoulders.
Exactly what I was after
The reviews are true — this sun shirt is light, comfortable, and has a good fit (a bit loose). It’s been perfect for my trail adventures in sunny, high altitude. Love the color (yellow flowers), too.
