I was super excited to use the GSI Glacier Base Camper (large) set. However I was greatly disappointed. The material is very thin which means it gets hot fast but the aluminum doesn’t retain heat so once the stove is off, food cools quickly. After only one use there is a bunch of burned, scorched food on the bottom. Spent hours trying to scrub it off and not able to get all of it off. Now my 5L pot is not usable as food comes out tasting burned. Do not recommend.
We wanted some steel pots that didn’t have Teflon. This set performed excellently. We were very happy.
I bought these for a new trailer we purchased. They fit in nicely. I like the silicone handles. It is easy to put back together in the bag it comes in. The lids for the pots do have vents in them. They clean up easy.
Set the pan up to cook up some ready made pasta sauce on my camping gas stove. The pan warped after a few minutes on the heat and the inside surface discolored. The heat was not on maximum and the food was not burnt. I am surprised by the poor quality. Alst the hinged handle on the lid is not useful. If you pick up the lid it swings up and burns your fingers. We will return it tomorrow to REI.
Pots work fine. I like the strainer lid. The handles are a bit short and often get hot. But the PAN IS AWEFUL. Everything sticks, no matter how much oil is used. After one use looks like a beater pan that is 10 years old and impossible to scrub enough to get nice looking. I’ve gone back to my old backpacking pan that actually is over 10 years old and still works much better.
