Comfy in the Caribbean!
I purchased these for my husband after I've had a pair myself for a couple years. I originally purchased to walk around Bermuda for the Americas Cup and they were so comfortable without socks. I live in the Caribbean and like a minimal shoe that is light weight and drains. We often walk along the shore to get to some hard to reach snorkel spots, sometimes requiring wading in the water with sea urchins. We can also wear on smooth path hikes to beaches too, but would not use if the path was very rocky or lots of tree roots as the toe is not protected. The come out great in the wash.

Great Looking Shoe, Tight Fit
Had been looking for a good water shoe for a long time. Tried these for camping and fishing as I'm frequently in the water. I normally wear a size 9.5 so I bought the 10 and they were a little too big. Size 9 was pretty tight, so I kept the 10s. The shoes do well in the water, great grip and they have a good feel while walking. Problem though, once these are wet - completely submerged, they struggle to dry. The inner soles have little nubs for comforting your naked foot, but when you're foot is constantly wet these nubs fatigue your skin and start to hurt. Then once you take the wet shoe off - also not an easy task as once they're wet they shrink quite a bit - they are impossible to get back on until they dry. So after my first day of use, I set them outside my tent to dry on my campsite and they were still wet 2 days later. Luckily I brought another pair of shoes. Very disappointing as I was excited for how nice these shoes look. Overall perhaps the shoes are best for a canoe or kayak shoe where you're going to use them for one day on the weekend and then go home until the next weekend adventure. Not meant for a week long camping trip, at least if you plan on getting your feet wet.

Great Durability for kayaking

I am just ready to replace my Loyaks with a second pair. When I bought them, they seemed a bit thin, but well made, so I thought maybe a season or two. I kayak almost daily, year round, and do long river trips (20 to 50 miles) on weekends. These shoes have lasted five years and are still serviceable, though the sole on one is starting to crack. The stitching holding the sole to the upper is still perfect. I've tired many other shoes and had the soles come off in a year or less of this level of use.I recommend them!

Sharp looking, well made, but really snug

I bought these for wearing on kayaking trips. I am an occasional kayaker, so I've only worn them a few times. They look really sharp - great color scheme - and they seem really well made. The soles are sturdy yet flexible, so they have worked well both on shore and at water's edge while getting in and out of the kayak. The only slight drawback is that they have a pretty snug fit and thus are sort of hard to slip on and off. Of course, a snug fit is what you want in swift moving water, so some folks might view that as a plus. I also have found that despite the snugness, sand and muck still sometimes manages to work its way in, which creates discomfort.

Snug fit Great grip

Bought these last year and really loved overall quality of the product. Found myself wearing them often times out after kayaking cause they’re super light and feel like a glove on your feet. Excellent grip on wet surfaces. I use them for general boating, kayaking and spelunking. It’s hard to find aesthetically designed water shoes that are built well and perform well. Astral crushed it with these. Will be buying another pair for this season.

Recommend Astal Loyak Water Shoes

I highly recommend these shoes. I looked at a lot of water shoes and most were okay, but not something I could where on a regular basis. Or they were strictly deck shoes and everyone knew it. These are different. They look like a normal sneaker, but they have the versatility of being a comfortable water and decent hiking shoe. I wore them to Grime Glen, Naples, NY this weekend and walked up the stream by the waterfalls this weekend and they were great. My wife had different brand of shoes and commented on how she was slipping on some of the rocks in the stream. These held a tight grip and I was sure-footed the whole way. Had a great walk up and back in the stream. The only thing to be aware of with these shoes is that they are tight around the ankle. Slipping them on is a little bit of a task as they squeeze my finger as I am putting them on. However, once they are on, they are comfortable, look nice, and really a nice shoe.

Nimble water shoes

Found the fit to be normal. Generally wear a 9-9 1/2, got a 9 & it’s good. Toe box seems a little wide compared to the rest of the shoe, but that might be to compensate for the narrow entry. I saw others complain about how tight the Loyak was to get on & off. I have no problem with that. Works great in the water. Has a good, supple feel on the rocks & shore. Traction seems good. Water drains well out of holes placed in the front & back. Would recommend to anyone looking to try something other than a sandle or cheap water shoe.

Comfortable casual shoe

These shoes are great - really comfortable, breathable, and look good. I was looking for a pair of knockaround/slightly dressy sneakers for the office (bike commuter) and going out, and wanted something with a wider toe box than the standard brands offered. The toe box isn't super wide (like Altras or my Xeros, which these are replacing), but still roomy and let the foot fall naturally without looking too barefoot-y. They look funny with even the lowest socks, but that's only an issue when wearing with shorts and they are really comfortable without socks even on the longest walks. Haven't taken them on any water adventures, but that's not why I bought them. Would buy again.

Water Shoes that Look Great but Feel Only Alright

The shoes look great. With that being said, Astral (on this particular shoe) does not offer half sizes. The 10 size was too big and the 9 was a bit snug. However, I decided to go with the smaller size. After a few uses the shoe felt much better. My only real complaint about this shoe is that once your feet are wet and you take off the shoes (maybe to rinse sand out) it is extremely difficult to get the shoes back on. I found it much easier to get the shoes on without laces. I would recommend simply getting water sandals.

So far so good

Ended up buying these out of desperation while on a road trip to yosemite and figured I'd use them kayaking back home. They've so far been crazy comfortable and was able to hike halfdome in them. Looking forward to wearing them kayaking or to work (kinda stylish) This review isn't super useful, mostly doing it because the REI in fresno said they would get a kick out of it.
