Perfect sun hoody!
I own it in multiple colors and the fit is perfect! I ran an Ultra in Moab this past March and it kept me cool/dry and warm/comfortable when needed. I love the longer length, lightweight breathable fabric, elastic around the hood to keep it from blowing off your head. Excellent quality!! I can’t wait to add more colors to my collection.
Really impressed with this shirt
I bought this shirt over a year ago, and since then have worn it hiking, backpacking, climbing, skiing and mountain biking. I took a fall while mountain biking and ended up getting a small hole the size of a needle... but when I took the shirt off I was surprised to find the elbow pad I was wearing underneath was ripped, and my arm was all scraped, but the shirt was fine! I've hiked with it in 70/80 degree weather and haven't been sunburnt. I sweat a lot and this shirt dries pretty quickly so I stay pretty dry. I'm really happy with this shirt. The only thing I wish was that it had a thumb hole and a pocket on the other side as well to balance it out.
confused
Wondering how no one else has mentioned how CRAZY itchy the stitching is on the inside of the sleeves… maybe it’s because it’s brand new but my Free Fly sun hoodies have never felt that way. I wish REI carried Free Flyyyyyy. I ordered a S and a M and returned both despite them both fitting so well. I’m 5’4” 140lbs muscular hourglass 35-27-40. And again.. I certainly do wish the REI app would allow photos with reviews (please.. photos help!)
Nice fit, but not for tall people
I’ve been trying out several sun shirts and sizing is so tricky. Most are too short in the torso. This one had a pretty long torso, long hood, and nice cut, however the sleeves were quite short. They barely reached my wrists and would leave my hands unprotected. As others have a said, the seams might bother someone who has very sensitive skin. I liked the little zipped pocket. I got medium, and normally wear small. For someone a little shorter, this would be a great shirt.
FAVORITE sun hoody
I love these. They fit great and are lightweight. I wear them on hot summer days and never feel like im sweating. I have multiple colors and cannot wait to collect more
Very Uncomfortable
I bought this based on the great reviews here but was super disappointed. I don't know if my skin is just sensitive or if something has changed since the positive reviews were left, but this piece was totally unwearable for me. It fit me fine with a fair bit of wiggle room, but the seams are very thick, rigid/scratchy, and awkwardly placed. They immediately irritated my skin when I tried it on- I can't imagine wearing this for a full day of movement. I returned it and bought an Outdoor Research Echo Hoodie which is much softer and more comfortable. I usually love Black Diamond but they dropped the ball here. Don't buy if you have sensitive skin.

Fantastic for All Seasons
For my mountaineering objectives year-round, this shirt does it all. Light enough fabric to wear in the PNW warm season, and a perfect bottom layer in the cold season. The hood is a generous enough size to wear over a hat/cap/under helmet and provide sun protection for the neck and sides of face. I haven't worn this long enough to speak to whether the fabric holds the "stank" like other poly shirts do, but I'm hopeful. I sized down for this and got an XS (5'7", 118 lbs) and am glad I did - fits perfectly. The Wild Rose color is slightly more of a dusty rose color, versus the picture which looks a wee more cherry red - it's a pretty color.
Use for roofing and working on the water.
I've had this hoodie for a few years now and it has held up well. I use it as sun protection wile doing roofing work and working on a lobster fishing boat. What I love about it is I can wear it even in the heat and it keeps me cool and protected from the sun. I'm buying a second one just to have as a back up because I love it so much
A Good-Looking Layer that Keeps Me from Sunburning
TL;DR: This is an awesome, lightweight layer to keep the sun at bay (especially for pale-skinned folks like me that burn easily)! I tested this layer out for the first time while hiking Mt. Mansfield in VT. It was easily 80+ degrees and the sun was blazing with little wind – even at the summit – and a substantial portion of our hike was spent completely exposed. I was skeptical of staying cool while wearing this layer, but I was pleasantly surprised! I didn't get sunburned and I didn't overheat. Truly all I could ever ask for. As for the sizing, I am 5'7"-ish and 185 lbs (athletic build), and I bought this in a women's large (which is normally what I wear). It is a bit boxier, but honestly I prefer a boxier fit over the curvier cuts. Regardless, it's still flattering for folks w/curvier torsos, and I would say it's ideal for people who have curves and don't fit perfectly in men's cuts/sizing, but also don't really want to wear clothes that accentuate those curves. Also the color is great, it goes with a lot of things. The one maybe-bummer is that because it doesn't have thumbholes, you can't keep the sleeves over the back of your thumbholes the whole time. BUT, with that being said, the sleeves/cuffs are long enough to stretch over the back of your hand and more or less stay there. The trade off is worth it in my opinion! Overall, an absolutely awesome layer that does its job and allows me to follow the first three rules of any outdoor activity: 1) look good, 2) look good, and 3) look good!
