A great bike for cruising.
This bike is fantastic for cruising. I’ve had mine for a couple years. I’ve put hundreds of miles on mine with no issues. I jump it off curbs, ride it on gravel and even went down a few easy single tracks. I’ve never had a flat, my rims have never even needed a trueing and I ridden it much harder than it was ever interned to. The frame is not very stiff but is not for racing and that is partly what makes the bike comfortable. I really like the seat. Wide enough to spread the weight out but not so wide that it rubs the inside of of your thighs. I would recommend the treadwell 2 just because the 9 speed gearing has a better range and hydraulic brakes are so much better. It’s not the best value as far a price to components but the geometry is what I really wanted. Not as pitched forward as a true commuter but not as laid back as a cruiser. And it’s lighter weight than any of similar bikes in its category, making it easier to load/carry.
Tires are the worst
The idea behind it is great, I little bit of everything. The execution was not so great. The cloth seats is not smart for days of unpredicted rain. You will need to buy a shell for your seat. The tire and tube size are difficult to find. I got one flat in The second ride and it's been over a week in which I can't fine the correct tire and tube size. ReI doesn't carry them. I have changed a tired in the past and by no means weak. I broke my bike tools trying to remove the tire and now can place it in. It's a bike that you will buy and then drop some $ to buy replacements. I am definitely returning the two I bought. I, in good faith, can not recommend this bike.
Fun City Bike, but Awful Tires
I really enjoy this bike, but it definitely prioritized style over functionality to hit this price point. PROs: - The frame is pretty lightweight. Additionally, it has sufficient mounting points to add a rear rack, front basket, and mudguards. I mounted an Axiom DLX Streamliner rear rack without issue. - The drivetrain provides an excellent range (this is true for the Treadwell 2, but not other trim levels). A 38 x 11-42t configuration is perfect for urban and general fitness riding. Top speed is decent, but not blazing fast. Mid to upper 20s MPH. - Hydraulic disc brakes provide responsive stopping power in all conditions. CONs: - The tires are terrible. Unless you live somewhere with perfect roads and smooth dirt paths, you will get flats. A pair of Schwalbe Marathon E-Plus in 650b x 50c (2") fit perfectly and offer substantially better performance in the city where I ride. - Handlebars are too wide for a bike of this style. Easily remedied with a pipe cutter, but I opted for cruiser style bars instead. - The rear derailleur is the no-clutch version, and I get a good amount of chain slap on this bike. Cannondale really should have spent the extra $10 on the version with a clutch.
Meets my needs for step through with gears
I have another bike that I love. But i needed a true step through bike with gears and a more upright ride for local riding. This bike is exactly what I need. It is fast, light, sturdy and fun to ride. I biked all through a national park last weekend and really enjoyed myself. It is fast. I coasted often while others peddled. Many bikes that are sold as step through are not. I had to cancel 2 previous orders because I could not easily step through the bike. Disc brakes are great. Love the handle bars.
Quality Cannondale
This bike is a high quality bike. The ride is comfortable for going around town or for longer rides. It has versatile gears and can handle most trails/roads.
Perfect All Around Bike
Put the bike through a 12+ mile rolling hills road excursion. Was able to spin up some fairly aggressive climbs. REI set the bike up perfectly. Gears worked seamlessly and brakes were great. Bought it so that I had a similar setup as my girlfriends bike. Pleasantly surprised. Really enjoyed my ride yesterday. Pretty light and very responsive. Happy customer.
Game changer for this newfound bike commuter
This is exactly the commuter bike I was looking for in the price range I budgeted. Since purchased in late 2023 I've put somewhere around 2,500 miles on the B-G, SRT and EastRail trails. Until up-armoring the tires, I had 3 flats in 4 months! Believe that further validates other reviews about the tires. And man, breaking that first flat tire bead took 2 young, strapping bike mechanics, tire tongs and large garbage can plus a lot of force. So also replaced the tires to make flat fixing easier for one middle aged dude. Only had one flat since (15 mos ago) and that was a fluke. I love the comfortable riding position, having a few gears for the occasional hill, wide tires for curb hopping, mud, rain, ice or gravel and the quick braking action of the HDB's. Found that the very wide handle bars take some getting used to. One of the coolest features for me personally is I can load it in the back of my Prius wagon with only a seat height adjustment. It's a low budget, green-ish bike transport system without racks or wheel removal!!!
ENJOYING THIS BIKE!
I PURCHASED IN JULY, HAVE HAD A COUPLE FLATS , BUT I SEE TIRES ARE AN ISSUE. I ENJOY MY BIKE,BUT ITS GETTING CHILLY HERE, IM WONDERING IF ITS COMPATIBLE WITH BIKE TRAINERS. ALL THE VIDEOS SHOW BIKES WITH QUCK RELEASE SKEWER AND IT DOESNT HAVE THAT ?
