My favorite light for doing just about anything
I love this thing! Absolutely my favorite light and I've even been using it instead of a headlamp because I can just strap it onto my hip belt and go. It lasts long enough to take on multi-day trips rafting, backpacking, backcountry skiing, and camping and is really, REALLY bright. Plenty bright to light a whole campsite and even light the way when I'm ski touring at night. It has also been my go-to during power outages and as a light source when removing chains on the side of the road at night. It's a little bulky for backpacking, but I see it as an alternative to a headlamp and a powerbank because it can top off my phone after charging in the sun on my pack while I'm on the trail. Highly, highly recommend!
Novelty item, at worst.
I was sent this as part of the Trailblazer group to try and give my honest opinion. To set the scene: I used this on a one woman solo trip, backpacking in Oklahoma. I was hoping to test it in Montana, but my plans did not go as I had wished. I wanted to really put this lantern to the test. I waited until completely dark to fire this baby up and put her through the paces. I inflated it with about 3 strong breathes- makes sure you didn’t just finish an uphill or this might be lights out! A bit stiff to inflate, I will say. Fumbled around for the power button and switched the lantern on. At the lowest setting, quite a good bit of light is cast. I plugged my phone into the provided USB-C charger and turned the light on High. I unpacked my bag, set up a new tent ( took a wee bit because I forgot my tent stakes lol) I set up camp, with the lantern on full brightness, still charging my phone; approximately 45 minutes and the lantern never wavered on the charge out of the box. One dislike is the PVC strap and snap device. The plastic is super stretchy and the snap too stiff to undo & I nearly tore the strap in half trying to get it open on ran through the strap in my tent roof. Once overhead, my tent was beautifully illuminated in a soft light that allowed me to see everything I needed. I crawled out of my tent and closed it up and was pleased that the light wouldn’t disturb anyone nearby. Pros & Good Uses: lightweight for car camping or front country camping. Charges with USB-C, USB ports and managed to charge my phone while illuminating without draining the charge. Solar panel is really handy. Would be great to keep as an emergency light source for a kit. I would even use this for some nighttime bank fishing. Dislikes & ( Maybe) not the best use: As a backpacker, I wouldn’t have this in my pack. I already have my headlamp and battery bank. Why would I add another couple grams of duplicity? This needs a better handle to elevate from. The plastic is so stretchy that it will break sooner, than later. To prevent that, I would have to add a clip to my camp setup- adding more weight. The snap is waaayyy too stiff to open and close. Overall, I wouldn’t buy this.
Lightweight and super bright!
As we are a family heading into a Northern New Mexican winter, we wanted an easy light that we could use to go and collect wood from our woodpile that was bright and would light up a larger area than a regular headlamp would. Enter the Mpowerd Luci Inflatable Solar Lantern! It inflated very easily, and we hung in outside next to our woodpile so when the sun went down at 4 pm we would still have good light to choose the best logs for our fire. It works great, has three brightness settings and the highest one is super bright, the plastic strap used to hang it is very secure, and the inflatable design means it will be a great addition when its time to start camping again in the spring!
Long life but heavy
I like the 3 different levels of light and the option of a flashing light. I used the USB to charge a full charge and then turned the lamp on the lowest setting and it stayed on for 48 hours straight! And on the brightest setting and it lasted 12 hours. I haven't tried the solar charger yet. What's weird about the lamp is that it doesn't sit flat. If you look at all the manufacturer's images of the product, it never sits flat o I supposeit'spart of the design. And oddly there's no place to put the charging cord. 4/5 stars because it lasts long on a charge and has good lighting, but it doesn't sit flat and you have to find a place to store the cord.
Great Lantern!
I was given a free product in exchange for an honest review through the REI Trailblazers program. This inflatable solar lantern is one of the best ones I've seen. Its best features are the phone charging capacity, the options for brightness, and the frosted look of the lantern that helps the light work for a larger area. The material felt like a sturdy plastic pool float. I was impressed with the ease of "assembly" because the lantern does most of the inflating work itself when you pull the top and bottom parts away from each other. The handle on the solar panel side of the lantern is adjustable and could comfortably be held by hand or snapped onto a pack. My only complaint is that the inflation point is in an awkward spot for trying to pinch and inflate with my breath. I'm excited to use this product more and learn about its durability. I'm optimistic about it! It feels sturdy. This is a good product!
Functional but not a home run
Overall this was a solid product. It is incredibly useful to light the tent at night for reading or to complete small tasks. It is easily packable into a backpack making it easy to bring along on a trip. The biggest drawbacks were the shorter than desired battery life and minimal usefulness for charging.
Light the Way
This is not my first Luci Light but it is the best one I’ve owned. I’ve drained this light several times. It will shine a full night of the low or mid setting; which is ample enough to illuminate campsite paths, trails or the bank area of a stream/creek. It will also recharge by solar in a day, under full sun, or by USB-C in a few hours. This will not charge using a USB C1 (PD Fast Charge) which would be a great feature for future evolutions. I carried this lantern, collapsed, on pack to allow solar charging. It travels well as it is light and offers an exterior loop/handle. I think the loop will eventually serve as a failure point in the lantern design as the polymer takes on more UVs with time; but I suspect it will go several years or the life of the electronics anyway. The light temperature is perfect for exterior use at night. It’s a warm light around 2,300-2,400k. This is ideal because your eyes adjust very slowly, and I’d add uncomfortably, when the light temp is anything 3,000k or above. This light makes it easy on the eyes when walking in and out of the dark. It does float though it is a bit top heavy. You could take it on a boat but I’d recommend securing it just in case. I had chances to take this lantern to the reed ponds out at Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge and to the Wichita’s in western Oklahoma.
Great light but slow to recharge with solar energy
Great product. I took this camping and my partner and I will definitely be using it again. The adjustable strap makes hanging around camp simple and the amount of light it gives off is plenty for tasks like cooking, eating, or hanging out around camp. While the ability to recharge devices using the light as a battery is nice, but I'm not sure it is very practical for off-grid use considering the long solar recharge time (~28 hours of direct sunlight). I found that on a full charge, it was able to take my pixel 7 pro from 10% to 60% while the phone was in use (screen was on while charging). Assuming you can plug the light in to your vehicle or an outlet to recharge it, you won't have any trouble with it. It was nice to have a battery pack available without really having to think about it. So while I love the light when I am using it as a light, I can't quite give it 5 stars as I think a bigger battery and or solar cell would be needed to make recharging newer phones or off-grid use more practical.
Not a bad light
This latern has some great features but has some room to grow. I like the charging options: solar or USB-C. I like that there is an indicator light letting you know the base is charging. However, the indicator light is difficult to see in day light (see attached photo: left is day light on a cloudy day; right is same location with the light shaded to see the green charging indicator next to the power button.) There is also no clear instruction or label sharing that the USB-C is power in and the USB-A is power out. This is not a deal breaker but could be something you have to re-learn each time you break this lantern out. The plastic cover is easy to inflate just like a beach ball. The cover appears to be water resistant enough to handle most outdoor situations (see attached photo). I also like the different handle options that allow you to adjust the handle length ans snap the handle around something for hanging the lantern.
Not worth it…
I got this to have a light and a way to charge my phone on an extended back country trip in Alaska. I was pretty disappointed with the charging capabilities, but now recognize that any solar panel that small is going to be pretty worthless for charging anything. This sat out all day charging, and then wouldn’t charge my phone at all. This was in AK in the summer, where there is 18+ hours of daylight a day… as a light it work fine, but it’s kind of heavy to be just a light. Wouldn’t have taken it backpacking, and if I wanted just a light, I would go for the much lighter Luci lights with no charging capabilities. Not worth the money, I returned.
