Handy
This hip belt pocket is extremely handy for quick access to my phone, lip balm, tissues, a small snack, etc. It fits on every pack I've tried and holds the end of the hip belt strap (no more excessive dangling straps!). The zipper is smooth and opens easily with one hand. The large zipper pull is easy to use without looking. I also like that this pocket uses recycled materials. Some people have said that this falls off easily or moves around a lot on the hip belt. I don't find that to be true if you shorten the straps as much as you can to fit your belt, removing the strap from the bottom loop, if necessary. If it's tight enough, the buckle on your hip belt or the friction of the pocket's straps against your hip belt will prevent the pocket from falling off or moving around. I find it also helps to use the wide loops on the pocket to hold the end of the hip belt strap, if possible. See the attached pictures. I agree with another reviewer that I would prefer if the logo weren't so big and conspicuous, though.
Changed design: does not fit over straps
I had an original one of these that I attached to my pack and I love it. So I bought a second one. However, the new one has a modified design with a much smaller sleeve that slides over your backpack strap. This new sleeve is now too tiny for most backpack straps (see picture). Please note that the new design does not match the pictures on the REI website which shows the old design. Again, I love my original one. But the new one won't work because the sleeve is too small. (Also the attached straps are too loose to hold the pocket on a pack and it will bounce all over with any weight in it. So the only way this works is if you use the sleeve instead the straps).
This pocket is so smart
Nowadays phone size is getting bigger and bigger, but women's hiking pants' pocket are still fairy small. I had lots of inconvenience this year trying to figure out where I could put my phone during hiking and backpacking. I wanted quick access to my phone to check route, elevation and progress. This pocket solved my problem perfectly. There are many ways to use the pocket 1. My favorite way to attach the pocket to hipbelt of my backpack is photo #1. This way it stays securely. By passing the loop string into a hole in buckle, I never have to worry about the pocket fall off the backpack. 2. If your belt is somehow wide or if you want to put this pocket on top of your backpack's hipbelt pocket, it works too. Like the picture #2. 3. In addition, if you purchase a webbing belt with buckle, you can make this pocket a stand alone fanny pack. This pack really solved my concern in a very smart way. I recommend it to any one!
Wow! Perfect addition to dog waist leash!
I got this hoping to add a pouch to my waist leash for phone and key during dog walks around my neighborhood. This is just great. I have a small frame and it wasn't too bulky, but still had enough space for my Pixel and a key, I could probably even add a granola bar. It does move around a bit, but I like the option to easily remove or add as needed.
doable
I know what everybody’s talking about. The strap sleeve does not fit not even the thinnest of hip straps however, after playing around with it a little bit, I realized that if you come in from above with your waist strap, slide it through onto the other side and up , you can put the strap in and it’s pretty snug and still adjustable when your hip strap is on. I did it with my Osprey skimmer 20. I wish I could attach a picture or a video but play around with it a little bit with the strap coming in from above in the middle of the sleeve then it fits to go over and then up , it doesn’t hang down. it’s actually very perfect. I almost want another one for the other side now.
Great hip belt pouch, horrible price
These are a great addition if your pack didn’t come with a hip belt pouch and they have many different mounting options. The size is adequate for small items or a point and shoot camera. The zipper is easy to open or close with one hand. They also seem to be water resistant but not water proof. I’ve used one for over a year and they’ve held up pretty well. My only complaint is the price. I bought one for my son in September and it was $13 now in March they’re $20 with no change to the product. That is a little ridiculous. This would definitely be a five star product if they hadn’t raised the price so much.
Decent pouch, but 50% price increase?
I bought this in August 2019. It is a small zippered pouch that attaches in a few different ways to various hipbelts. It fits my Google Pixel 2, and I usually keep a snack or pack out trail trash in it. The only annoying thing about it is that it slides around on my hip belt, so if I undo the buckle on the hip belt (taking pack off, etc.), I always have to buckle it behind me to make sure the pouch and its contents don't slide off. That being said, I thought $12.95 was pretty fair for this. With a 50% price increase to $19.95, I would definitely not buy it.
REI backpack hipbelt pocket
I got this hipbelt pocket to put on my Deuter 60+10 backpack that, while nice and light, came without pockets. These pockets were a perfect fit, very lightweight, seem waterproof, and fit an iPhone in a case or snacks. I bought one to try it out, and was so happy with the pocket that I bought one for the other side!
Works like a charm
I like to wear tights for hiking, but I don’t like having to wrestle my phone, with its draggy silicone case, in and out of my leg pocket every time I want to check the map or take a picture. My Trail 25 pack, while a very good pack in general, lacks a hip pocket for easy phone/small item access. My problem is now solved. This pocket easily fits my iPhone 12 mini, glasses, and a snack. To attach, I removed the buckle from the pack’s waist strap, fed the strap through the sleeves on the back of the pocket, then reattached the buckle, thus eliminating the risk of the pocket falling off.
More storage
Bought this to go with my Osprey Tempest 9 backpack. The hip belt pockets are quite small on the pack so this adds great additional storage. I was able to thread my hip belt through (with a little effort) but now that I have it secured it never comes off and stays on the pack. It's large enough to hold my IPhone 14 Pro without any issues. Great addition to any pack for such a low price.
