How to Choose Ski and Snowboard Helmets

Don't leave home without the Smith Level Mips snow helmet. It's built with a hybrid shell construction and Mips technology, which helps reduce rotational forces if the helmet gets hit at an angle.

True to size! (make sure to measure your head before you order people!!) So comfy and warm. Vents are super cool for dialing in just the right amount of air flow. I hope I never put it to the test on a tree, but I am glad that if the worst happens, my noggin is protected. I paired it up with the Smith 4D ChromaPop Goggles so I could look and feel like a fighter pilot. TALK TO ME GOOSE!
Fits well, similar to the older Smith Vantage helmet. Adjustment system in the back similar to the Boa system, though only tightens on the back and sides (not the front). The back adjustment does not move up and down. Ear pads feel slightly farther back than the Vantage but still very warm. If the chin strap is not tight enough, wind can enter through the front and cause a slightly annoying whistling sound. Works well with the Frontier goggles with minimal movement. Anti-fogging integration works well.
Seemed like a great helmet with the features I'd want, but once received it just didn't fit (weird pressure on the side). I'm near the upper end of the size range of large and it seemed a little small and wouldn't have had room for a balaclava, so maybe size up if you're right at the upper end of a size. I tried the XL later and it was ok, but still not great. Oddly, I didn't feel this Smith helmet worked great with my couple year old Smith goggles (top edge of goggles didn't line up great with the helmet). That was probably the biggest disappointment. Ended up returning and buying a Giro (not saying it's a better helmet, but it is interesting how it fit so differently.) In short, definitely try on with goggles before committing to this helmet (or any).
Super comfortable, warm even in near-zero degree conditions with enough ventilation to wear during spring skiing. Durability has been great, only a few hard-to-notice scratches from 4 years of wipeouts and brushing aside branches in tight trees. I even take it in the backcountry (gasp!), although it spends long climbs on my backpack instead of my head. I wouldn't upgrade to the Vantage over this one unless you generate heat light a furnace or are worried sick about the 1 oz weight difference. This one's much more comfortable.
This is a great helmet and overall I am very satisfied. It is a perfect fit and the liner will keep you warm. The air vents are nice for warmer days. The mips is a nice piece of mind to have too since most ski crashes will have some tumbling. Combined with my smith goggles I have a perfect fit. My issue with this helmet is the top of my ears rub on something, I am thinking it is the plastic mips harness. It isn’t bad but after a long day it starts to irritate a little. Problem is completely solved by putting a layer over my ears like a thin buff which I do anyway.
Occasionally you want to take your goggles off and have them rest on your helmet.. the rim on this helmet makes it nearly impossible for goggles not to fall off unless they are just on your head.
Fits well, comfortable, provides protection, especially if you are a very stable genius. :)
The left ear cover detached from the helmet constantly. It should snap in, but the snap doesn’t seem to work. Brand new helmet. Pretty disappointed.
Truly is a wicked comfortable, light weight helmet. With wicked great air flow and air vents. I just picked this helmet up, after wearing an older helmet for the past 6 years, that wasn't very light and didn't breath well. I highly recommend this helmet and any of their other helmets. Thank you Smith for making wicked great safety brain Procter helmets, and overall wicked great gear. Cheers and thanks again!:skin-tone-4::fire::v::skin-tone-5::sign_horns::skin-tone-5::heart:
Awesome brain bucket. Looks and feels great. What you don’t see in the pictures is the soft lined inside and incredible protection. Top of the line.
