Sturdy shovel that I have complete confidence in!

First off, love the color situation on the shovel. Minor detail, but do like the matching game. Secondly, I like that Mammut shovels are UIAA certified - meaning they stand up to the test. Practicing with this shovel, it felt sturdy and the actual shovel part was wide enough to move a lot of snow at one time! During my Avy 1 class, my partner's shovel broke, so I valued the quality of this shovel quite a bit after realizing what could go wrong if we were in a 'real' burial scenario.

Great small shovel. Fits nicely in my BCA Float 32 pack. It is super lightweight and easy to assemble. I haven't used this on any debris, but after our recent dump in SLC I had a roofalanch that needed clearing. I put the Alligator up against my 20 year old Voile workhorse. Alligator is aptly named. It cut right through the compressed snow, and while it didn't move as much as the much larger Voile, it was certainly capable. I would be fine knowing my buddies were digging me out with one.

Amazing tool for the money!

This shovel is an auto-include for any snow excursion. Lightweight and compact, it fits great lashed onto any pack or outer pocket, and feels sturdy when fully expanded. I have even used it to dig my car out after a snow storm. The ONLY complaint I have is that the handle is just a touch short (you also can't side on this shovel like a sled if that's something that's important to you). If you're looking a great snow shovel to take with you or keep in your car, look no further!

Move the decimal on the weight

Love the shovel, not the error. Weight is 1 pound 7.5 oz, not .75 oz as written. It's a good shovel, really being one pound would have been even better.

Great Lightweight Shovel

I often ski very well-traveled and low-angle backcountry. I'm more in it to get a nice winter hike than set fresh tracks. I see many people skiing these routes without avi rescue gear and its tempting to do the same. Having a lightweight and compact shovel like this allows me to not think twice about bringing my avi kit. If you're in an environment where avalanches are more likely I'd recommend getting a bigger shovel.

Small but mighty

This is my go-to shovel anymore. I timed myself multiple times utilizing a larger blade d handle style shovel and found I was faster and less tired using the smaller lighter shovel. I got 5 years of a lot of use out of one before I decided to retire it to a parking lot car shovel. I highly recommend this shovel for folks that carry shovels resort skiing due to its compact blade and handle and lightweight

Light, packs well, cuts through crust well. Doesn't move as much snow as heavier larger and more ergonomic shovels but that is the trade you are getting with a light shovel. Good mount points for a snow anchor. Easy and fast to deploy but the spring buttons have a tendency to ice up after extended use such as digging a pit and require some finagling to detach the shovel head from the shaft after use.

Cheap, Reliable, Lightweight

I love how lightweight and packable this shovel is. Compared to many others on the market the blade is small and it packs well in my mountaineering pack where weight and size mean everything. The handle is plenty long enough to use comfortably and is easy to construct and use. Great for anyone, and it's pink!

Great shovel

this is a great shovel. it is lightweight, packs up nicely, fits in the bag, and is simple. the only issue is it doesn't have a really flat end so it can be hard to make perfectly straight pits. but for what the shovel is most important for, digging out of an avalanche, it would be ideal.

this has been a huge upgrade from my 15 year old voile. i've been excited to have a quality, strong, compact shovel that doesn't have a neck. this makes the fit way better in my bag. it has been used for snowpits, digging out and igloos as well.
