I got this as a petite adult (size 14-16) because the length works better for me than the women’s jacket since I’m only 4’11 and 120lbs. This jacket is nice and ideal for a crisp fall/spring day, but I definitely won’t recommend it as a primary jacket for anything below 40°F because it is way too thin and I have felt the wind passed through. I’m still figuring out how the entire jacket is supposed to be stuffed into the left pocket.
It seems to be a good quality jacket. My daughter had a Patagonia down before that went missing at school. I bought her this jacket that does exactly what it’s supposed to do except one small detail involving comfort. Where the sleeves connect the body of the jacket there is a sewn seam/ tab the runs the entire 360 of the sleeve to body that my daughter finds quite uncomfortable to the point where she won’t wear it which defeats the point of buying the jacket.
XXS black used 3 yrs which led me to purchase this for next winter in 6-7 for our then 5yo. The blue is sadly violet ish? Will keep it as we don’t hate it but the image of the boy in blue doesn’t show the true hue (seems royal but the Berry name is more accurate). The neck/inside lining is definitely a violet. If your buying for a young boy they may not be willing to wear depending on your preferences. Our son will hopefully wear this no cares next winter and then we may pass it down after instead of keeping 2 years as planned depending on sizing.
I’m a smaller adult who hates the cut of women’s jackets. I decided to try this instead, and I loved it so much I bought it in 3 colors. It’s surprisingly warm for how light it is, and very easily packable. I haven’t had any issues with the zippers. I wear an XS in women’s; a L (14-16) in this jacket fits me perfectly.
I ordered a size larger than the size chart suggested, and the jackets barely fit. I got the 14-16 for my 9-year old and the size 8 for my 6-year old. They're too tight with a sweatshirt underneath, and my kids will definitely outgrow them before winter ends. Really disappointing. REI, please change your return policy to be free, or update your size charts.
We got these for our 2 young girls. They’ve survived Fall/Winter/Spring. During which they’ve been used daily for school. Thrown on the ground and trampled on at recess. Soccer practices. You name it. They’ve been through the wash multiple times. Our girls still love them and I feel they’ll last until they’re outgrown.
Going from the kids Patagonia down jacket in 5T to the REI down jacket was a bit of a let down on the amount of down packed into the baffles, I would almost say its half as good as the Patagonia kids down jackets. Stuff more down into it and charge people a few buck more.
Very nice warm but light down jacket, I have found it excellent for days above freezing (so far). I am a small woman and purchased kids for the color (brighter than women's jacket), hips a touch narrow but works fine. Haven’t tried to fully compress it ye, but hope too as travel packing that was a reason bought it. Sale price another incentive.
I’d sure like to see a hooded version from REI. If anyone needs a hood, it’s fussy kids who don’t keep their hats on.
I bought this jacket for myself....A) it fits better that the XS womens; I got kids 14-16; love it and it is perfect for the not super cold days, as it is....On colder days, it is large enough that I can get a fleece under without it being too bulky! The blue is a nice color, and I have received some compliments!
