I have a narrow heel, but need a wide toe box. These are awesome. Top material is synthetic, but much nicer than similarly priced shoes. They are reasonably stiff, but not overly aggressive in terms of foot angle. I tried pretty much every other major brand, and these are the only ones that fit my feet. I have about twenty rides on them so far, and they have been great. My only complaint is the tongue digs in one spot. They often do not have these particular Pearl models in stock, but the Pearl shoes all fit pretty much the same. Try a different model, and it should match.
Reasonable for the price, but I think that I just found a small but correctable defect in my pair. The shoes have been reasonable for rides of up to about 3 hours, but after that I get pain in one of the outer toes of my left foot. I recently purchased new insoles in the hope of alleviating this issue. What I found is that both of the original insoles appear to be for the right shoe. i.e., my left shoe has an insole intended for a right shoe. I suppose that this type of mixup could happen to just about manufacturer. Though this is not the kind of thing I would think to look for.
Bought these for using with my Peloton bike. The boa system has worked great for me, keeps the shoe tight on my foot without pinching the toe box. Lots of mesh in the shoe that helps keep my foot cool. Most other shoes I’ve seen are primarily leather with small amounts of mesh. That design works fine for a road bike but not for an indoor spin bike.
The carbon sole provides a stiffness that feels great when pedaling. They are lighter and more responsive than similarly priced cycling shoes I've owned by other brands. The BOA is so much better than the old velcro straps I had on my previous pairs of shoes. Only issue is they are a bit larger/longer than I expected, as I bought the same size (48) that has fit me in Shimano, LG, and Giro. As long as I keep the BOA ratcheted tight, it's really not an issue once I start pedaling.
One ride in and I am returning the shoes. Overall, it is a nice shoe and I like Pearl products. So, first, the BOA system does not tighten the lower portion of the shoe enough, but it does the top. I could not get the lower portion tight enough for a comfortable ride. They should have two BOA systems vs one. Second, the toe box was too wide for me. I see some other reviewers that seem to like it but I didn’t. If you have a wide toe box these should fit well. Third, there is too much material in the toe area. Pearl should get rid of some of the material for a tighter fit.
So far, I've worn these shoes about a dozen times. They provide an excellent fit with great comfort superior to other shoes I own that are twice as expensive. The lacing mechanism fastens tightly and evenly allowing me to pedal efficiently for hours with no discomfort. Recently, I was caught in 2 downpours and the shoe remained comfortable while wet and was just fine after air drying.
If you are looking for a wide, reasonably priced shoe this is a good choice. My other shoes are a couple of pairs of Specialized Sport shoes - one set size 47 and one set size 48. The Pearl Izumi Attack shoe has a wide sole - so it feels like the pressure on your foot is spread out - more comfortable. Compared to the Specialized Sport shoes, these feel hotter and less breathable. Also, these shoes have zero padding on the end of the tongue, so it cuts at your ankle. Hoping that goes away as they break in. The first ride was 16 miles and after a mile or so I forgot about the shoes - so nothing above bothered me. When I got off the bike, my feet were noticeably more comfortable when I pulled the shoes off and walked around. I wear a 13, bought the 48 and it is good. If I was in the store I would have tried on a 47 as well. Giving these a 4 out of 5 - lose one star for the sharp edge on the tongue - that's just bad design.
Boa lace up system works great, so much better than velcro. Have no problems with laces loosing up. Very quick to put on and dial in. Seem to be made for the American foot, after using Sidi and other italian made bike and motorcycle boots/shoes, was great relief to find a shoe that fits true to size. Not too narrow or tight for listed EUR size.
The single boa got loose as I rode. Then when I tightened it my toes fell asleep. Could never get it tight on my ankle without crushing my forefoot.
Purchased exclusively for indoor spinning. I use them daily and have put K's of miles on them and they are rock solid. I think that I will grow tired of them before they wear out ! BOA works well. Ventilation is better than average which is one reason why I purchased them.
