A smelly, good balm with bad instructions.

Do your self a favor and read the application tip below on applying this stuff, because it's easy to get wrong. If you want to take the natural approach to leather care, there are going to be some trade-offs. And your going to find all those trade-offs in this product. It's more tacky, heavy and smells more than Nixwax, but is robust, conditions the leather well and does increase the water repellent properties. They will also darken the gloves pretty significantly, but that's to be expected. It smells to high-heaven though, so account for this if you're going to be applying it indoors. If it doesn't smell, you aren't using enough of it. The instructions say "apply until leather is saturated", which means you will be heaping this stuff on. IMPROVED APPLICATION METHOD The instructions for application (both on the tin and online) are bad. To really apply this stuff the way that you should you need a plastic bag (or similar disposable work-area covering), a towel, some disposable gloves (or towel, but gloves are better) and the VERY important hair dryer. Heat is vital to the application of the balm, and Hestra does not explain this well. If you apply the balm to cool leather, it will absorb poorly and possible create blotchy patches. The leather pores need to be expanded by heat in order to properly adsorb the balm. I tried this cold on one glove, and warm on the other. The difference was night and day. To prep: put the leather gloves on the plastic bag, open the tin, put on one disposable glove, and wrap the hair-dryer handle in another plastic bag. The plastic bag around the handle is important, because this balm is the pickle-juice of outdoor products, and anything it touches will smell like it forever. Put the leather glove on the hand that isn't wearing the disposable glove, and then heat the leather glove you're wearing with the hairdryer. You can also do the "put them in the oven" method for 5-10 minutes, but since I didn't want to accidentally burn the most expensive souffle imaginable, I preferred the hairdryer method. With the hairdryer, you can also continually reheat the gloves, which IMHO is preferable. When the glove gets nice and warm (not hot) on the inside, the leather is ready. Just use your fingers (covered by the disposable glove) and smear on the balm, making sure to do it evenly and across the seams. It should be somewhat time consuming to do correctly, and if an area is cool when you get to it, just grab the hairdryer (covered with bag) and heat it up again. Once you've done this, repeat with other glove. Let them sit for a few hours then check on them. Reapply if some parts didn't even out correctly. Let sit again. Once they've sat around for a few hours to a day. Prep a work area again. This time, use a micro-fiber towel instead of disposable gloves. Heat the gloves, then give them a heavy rub with the towel. This will even out any remaining patches of balm, and rub away whatever excess is on the surface, reducing the rather pungent smell and leaving the gloves shiny and nice. Hestra should improve their instructions, other than that this stuff is perfectly fine.

Treat your leather right

Bought this for all of my outdoor winter leather work gloves (not Hestra) that I use for log splitting, shoveling, building fires, etc. This balm really breathed some new life back into my handy workhorses, turning them from stiff and dry to supple and healthy. Slight coloration from applygin this, but I don't care about that since this is really just about stretching the life of my 10-year old Kincos.

Works great!

This conditioner was great. It revived a pair of ski gloves that I had grossly neglected and let dry out and it also helped waterproof a new pair of gloves I just bought. 4/5 because I can get a larger container of this in the form of boot leather conditioner for a better price.

Gotta get some

Got this to re-waterproof my ski gloves. Worked like a charm. Heated up my gloves and the wax a bit on a radiator and made it that much easier to use. Wouldn’t recoat more than a couple times, don’t think the gloves will last. I’ve used on boots and other leather goods and worked just as well to waterproof. Unreal product

Slicky not sticky!

Lots of cream this should last forever, it worked great to soften and water proof my gloves and I used it on my sons leather bicycle seat as well to refresh that. It will darken the leather a bit as stated on hestras web site. And don’t forget to pre moisten the gloves before applying.

Same as Sno-Seal?

Ingredients read like Sno-Seal, but more expensive. Directions would be better if they mentioned warming the item that it is to be applied.
