I'm so glad I found this parka! I was looking for a hip-length down jacket initially, but if it fit my hips it was too big on top and if it fit on top it didn't fit my hips. Don't even get me started on how many women's down jackets are straight-cut. Have some that way but please not the majority (though I'm biased with the following measurements: 38 chest, 30 waist, 39 hip bones, 46 low hip). The medium was perfect in the top (flattering to my upper body shape but with room for sweaters), but the hips were ever so slightly too tight for my liking. I didn't want the parka to catch on my hips while moving around (my hip-laden ladies know what I mean!). I went full-send on the oversized parka look and got the large. So comfortable. Nice and warm (totally comfortable at ~30deg so far). Plenty of room for layering. It's like I'm wearing a sleeping bag and I am here for it. This parka will probably work well if you've got some hips. And beyond that, you will be cozy as heck.
I have so far loved this parka. I walk to work in drizzly Seattle and it has kept me so warm for the week in 40°F weather. Almost made me too warm, but when it gets much colder that will be convenient. Material is nice and I feel like it was made to last. Inside has a fleece material for the hood so my ears stay warm. Compactable enough to fit in my locker at work and come out unwrinkled. Pockets are nice and I like how you can unzip on the sides for more airflow.
I'm not one to typically write reviews, but for this coat I made the exception. I feel like most parkas are so expensive, and I was not willing to spend a ton on a jacket. But the price for this jacket is incredible for the quality of coat. It's slender without being too form fitting, and is so warm. I love how the pockets are fleece lined and how the back of the jacket is slightly longer. Not going to lie, at first glance I wasn't a big fan of the style, but when I tried it on it looked so much better than how I had anticipated. In love with this jacket and it is now a staple in my closet.
I took a trip to Banff, Canada where the weather was below 0 degrees Fahrenheit (partly cloudy with no wind) for most of the trip, and this coat kept me perfectly warm! I layered up with a heat tech base layer long sleeve when the temperature ranged from 0 degrees to 10 degrees F, and added a lightweight puffy when temperatures dropped to -15F. My toes, fingers and face (anything not covered by this coat) were freezing, however haha. I don't think this jacket runs big. It is slightly oversized, but that is standard and expected from a winter coat. I'm 5'6" and 120 pounds and the small fits me perfectly -- I think a medium would have worked as well. The jacket is surprisingly lightweight and the color is so cute -- this should last me many many years!
I agonized over getting a coat. I wanted something warm enough to wear visiting our family up north but also worked for a hiking trip we recently took to Zion and Grand Canyon. This was amazing! It looks cute (Which DOES matter). Was perfect amount of warm between -2 to 40. It has side zips and zips bidirectional in front so easy to have movement for hiking. Warm hood with an innovative drawstring and great zipper pockets for warming hands. Altogether the best. Washable. Icing on the cake was an adorable teenager out hiking who told me she likes my coat. :-) I am size 10 and a large was great for layering.
Not the most stylish looking in my opinion, I feel like a marshmallow in it, but very practical and all I’d want to keep me warm on winter walks! I ordered a size Large and am 5’3” ranging between 160-175 pounds since I’ve had it. There’s plenty of room & I could wear hoodies etc under if wanted. The inside of the hood and inside of the pockets are a fuzzy fabric that would probabaly soak up water if wet, so make sure to put the hood on if raining so water doesn’t get in it. The hood is not removable. Sometimes longer jackets feel too tight around my legs and make me feel like I can’t take big steps in them, but I like that there are zippers on the side to open up the bottom part to allow more space.
Long-time REI member here. Sadly disappointed in this coat. The outer material is stiff and scratchy. The side pockets are awkward to reach. They are sewn into the side seams, which requires reaching back a bit to access the pockets instead of a more natural arm movement placing pockets toward the front of the coat. Also the pockets are a vertical seam instead of angled, so it's uncomfortable to hold your hands in the pockets. The insulation filling is flat, not lofted as expected. The coat arrived stuffed without wrapping of any sort in a broken cardboard box. Overall the coat feels cheaply made and carelessly packed for delivery. Not the quality of product I've expected from REI brand outerwear.
I loved this coat --- dang it I didn't want to return it: Perfect walking length (which is why I bought it), perfect fit in arms with room to layer and the sleeve length wasn't at my elbow, perfect fit through the back and loved the cozy hood. I returned it because there was no room in pockets (which felt like I was reaching behind my back) ...no room for keys, ID, extra hanky, ear muffs or room to stash my gloves. I got this coat to walk the creek by my new house ... I will not carry a purse, that is the reason for the pockets. Please, add a few pockets and make the ones you have deeper. Women carry things, give us the place to carry them and I will buy the coat and tell my other friends who walk through the winter here.
I am between size XS and S and chose the Small - a bit roomier for putting a layer underneath and getting in/out of car etc. For reference I am 5'4", 130#, 34-29-38, usually a size Small, but this coat is cut pretty big. It won't win a lot of style points but it is well-made, comfortable, warm, reasonably lightweight, and a nice khaki green color. It also can zip up from the bottom as needed, and has side zippers for extra flexibility - very nice features! I bought it at a great price at the 30% off REI products Black Friday sale. I do not think it is waterproof but should survive quick outdoor trips with precipitation. It'll be great for those cold days in the upper Midwest - thanks, REI!
This coat is seriously warm, high quality, and a great deal as far as poofy coats go. I'm 5'4, 130lbs, and ordered a size small, which gives me plenty of room to layer underneath the coat. I love that there is an inside sleeve/liner that makes it impossible to get snow up the arm or around the wrist. I do share some of the same suggestions as other reviewers: I wish the snaps were centered and more substantial (they seem cheap as far as snaps go although I've had no problem using them), that there were inside pockets, and that the coat was more fitted or had a draw string on the interior. Some others mentioned the hood being small--I actually like the snugger hood because it does its job and it's not so big that the wind blows it off.
