Just received my second Fuego jacket - bought my first 3 years ago and wore it 100+ days a year. Warmest coat I think I own. First Fuego material was a little thicker and the fit is different. I prefer the new (2019) model over the old for a few reasons - the black is almost a deep navy blue (love the color), the cinch cord at the bottom is a great improvement (but maybe a string to tie down the extra drawstring to the inside of the jacket), and the gift bundle is hard to beat :) - Things I noticed that I would have carried over - older Fuego had a more slim neck opening which was nice. Really happy with the second one and will be back in 3 more years!
Just got my jacket in the mail today and at first glance, the look is awesome (i got the sahara color) but it seems like a spring jacket. I have yet to wear it outside so I can't say whether its warm or not but everyone on here says it is! The next thing I noticed and I get this is a small detail but the seam along the zipper is a different color in the photos which I loved but thats not the case with the actual jacket! Lastly, the fit.. I am rather slim (6'2"/190lbs) and the medium fits great everywhere except the hips its definitely a little short and tight. I know if I got the large it would be huge in the arms and chest.
Based on some reviews I read on the Cotopaxi site and how the coat is advertised, I expected it to be warmer. I live in Salt Lake City, and temperatures have been in the 30s lately. I wear a t-shirt and a long sleeve shirt under the coat, but I will get cold after not too long. (My wife has the same coat for women, and says the same.) So that was a bit disappointing. I also don't like that you can't put the hood on and off when the coat is all the way zipped up. But the coat does look nice and feel nice, so I'll still keep it. But once temperatures get down below 30, I'll have to layer up more or wear my bigger winter coat.
I'm 5'8" 155lbs. I generally wear medium in shirts and 38 regular jackets, rare but sometimes I'm a small. This jacket fits me perfectly. The arms stop just past the wrists and there's room to wear a layer underneath, the armpit is close to being tight but it's just right for me. My chest is 39" arms are 20.5" from my armpit to where my wrists meet my palm. The scuba style hood has plenty of room in for a beanie or lots of hair but still holds its shape so it's not falling in front of my face while I hike. Zero complaints so far, time will tell if it's durable on backpacking trips.
got this jacket based on looks, and after reading about the cotopaxi brand and loving what they're trying to do. here's a quick rundown: pros: - the jacket is a lot thinner than i expected, but it is surprisingly warm. got the jacket just in time for nyc's first snowstorm, and tested it out in about upper 20s-lower 30s weather. without much base layer, this jacket is ridiculously warm and weather proof and holds up well - looks great and fits well...i'm usually a medium, and this fit as expected - supporting a positive brand cons: - zipper often gets stuck in if you're not careful - it's ultra thin for the price (but as above, does seem to hold up in terms of warmth)
The jacket is comfortable and warm, and I like the fit. It also does a pretty good job of wicking water in light rain. However, the horizontal stripes that run across the jacket are stitched onto each other (as opposed to onto the main color fabric). I believe this leads to some weakness in the jacket as after wearing it a couple of days, the jacket the stitching didn't hold, and an opening formed causing the down to be exposed. After inspection, it appeared as though the fabric underneath was barely connected to the stripe layered above it in the first place. Based on reviews, I was hoping for better quality.
I bought this jacket for warmth and unpredictability of Oregon Fall/Winter Weather. The fit is as expected and I instantly noticed the warmth of the jacket. The first trip was to the Mount Hood Foothills were the weather hovered around freezing. The jacket kept me warm with minimal under layers. One thing that really stood out was the wind the resistance. It was remarkable. Combine this with the water and mud resistance. The jacket did not absorb any of it. Liquids shed right off without the jacket getting soggy. Then when I got home, 1 simple wash and the jacket looked like it had come out of the box.
This thing is impossibly light, super warm (wear with a T-shirt in windy 15 degree weather) when needed (also is comfortable in 40 and 50 degree weather) and sheds water surprisingly well (no downpours for longer than a couple minutes). It looks good, feels good to wear, zippers are top quality, etc. The only reasons it’s 4 and not 5 stars to me is for the following: bottom hem (waist) is very small and doesn’t fit me even though the majority of the rest of the jacket does, the armpits seem like theyre too tight (was surprised to find that they weren’t a different material than the rest of the jacket - I thought I read that they were a different material?), and the blue stripe on the outside of the jacket is so light blue it is see through - you can see the folded up piece of the dark fabric from the hem below the light blue section through the light blue fabric.
Just scooped up a jacked from the Fuego line to have as an option other than my patagooch. And i will say already, i'll be buying another . Great quality, really cool colors, and holds up against those cold cold days without sun that Colorado tends to have time to time. Ready to get it out in the snow to really feel it out. Was able to take off my Mid later that i had on while wearing the patagooch, and feel just as warm in short sleeves w/ the Fuego hooded jacket on. Havent really taken a good look at all the fabrics, stitching just yet. I do know what the company is doing in general and where/ how it started is really amazing. Happy to be part of la familia do you all have stickers yet?
This is my second Cotopaxi jacket after the insulated Pacaya and i love it just as much. It's super warm without making you look like a puffed up marshmallow. But the weight is so light you'll forget you're wearing it. Love the elastic at the cuffs and waist, just the right amount of elasticity. And the hood is nicely fitted but not too snug, and has a bit of a overhang to keep the rain or snow out of your eyes. As for the size, i'm 5'8 145 and it fits perfect. Trim enough to wear a shell over, but plenty of room to layer underneath. I'm often between sizes with other outdoor apparel companies (i'm looking at you patagonia with your long arms), so glad i tried cotopaxi. I'll be back for more.
