Got the eco version as a warranty replacement for the original Thermo all 3-in-1. Wish I had patched and kept the old one. While this system is definitely warm and windproof, the waterproofing in terribly lacking in the Eco version. Days that were no problem with the old system turned to water logged warm up laps with the Eco versions. Still love the flexibility in layering, the internal layer becomes a daily driver for cool mornings out of season and backpacking trips. Also wish there were more internal pockets, meaning more than ZERO. a big goggle starch is the only option or storage on the interior.
Jacket is nice looking and fits well. It kept me warm in Brooklyn at twenty degrees but have yet to test on the mountain. I don't like that it has no internal pocket that can be sealed by zipper or Velcro, just the goggle pocket in the shell. I like a place to store my phone inside my jacket when boarding and not worry about losing it. For some reason the main zipper is the only zipper on the jacket without a leash. Which will make it more difficult to deal with when I have on my mittens (the inner jacket liner has it, will probably move it to main shell zipper). Seems to be a good jacket but will need to test it further to give anymore opinions on this product.
I bought this a month ago and used it once in mammoth. It was warm with my layers underneath on the lifts in 20f weather wind some winds. It was nice having dual zippered chest pockets and hand pockets for quick access. The dow fall is that there’s no Che’s pocket inside or out on the liner Thermo ball jacket. And the hand pockets don’t zip either. I kept losing stuff and always wishing for a chest pocket. For $300 I want a the extra pocket and zippers. I’m going back to my summit series. It’s more expensive but has the features I like.
This jacket is amazing for cold weather.
I use it daily
As mentioned in another review, there is a narrow inner flap that runs up the left side next to the zipper, and it gets stuck in the zipper a lot. And it’s a pain to get unstuck. After the 3rd time in just 4 days of buying it, I left it stuck and returned it. It would happen no matter how careful I was when zipping it. This is too bad because I really liked the jacket and the removable liner.
This jacket is great for everything winter in Utah has had to throw at it. It's warm enough for icy cold mornings, or cold days on the slopes. Overall range of motion is decent, it has felt a little restrictive when using both jackets at once. The shell is lightweight, and blocks the wind, waterproofing is spot on and it's good and durable the way a north face should be. The thermoball eco fill has impressed me, I own similar jackets from other companies that don't keep me near as warm.
Really liked the jacket but the liner restricted movement too much for me. Ended up going with the Sickline which allowed more movement for me (albeit less insulation, but can layer up). Was also much lighter. Worth noting on thermoball snow jacket, if you have the liner zipped in you can't use the powder skirt. So unzip the liner and then you can get the powder skirt working. Also, no media pocket despite the description.
Bought this coat for myself to attend a New York Jets game. I had recently used another jacket in cold, wet weather that soaked through the fabric. It is a Columbia jacket and it's great but not really meant for wet and frigid temps. This cost was a little pricey but it's very nice and warm. I like the way you can cinch the hood for proper fit and I look forward to using the inner liner as a jacket when it's not as cold.
I live in Minnesota, it gets cold here. When this jacket gets cold, the shell almost sounds like plastic tinfoil as you crunch it together. Extremely annoying. Also, please just the 2 way zippers to EVERY outdoor jacket/coat PLEASE ‼️ With out it, it's hard to sit with out the whole thing riding up while you try and drive. Please just make them like the old Mountain Guide from the 90's to early 2k.
