I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect duffel. Look no further, here it is. When I first received the package I was confused as to why it was so small. Patagonia is so efficient in there packing, I unfolded it and bam, more than enough room. I’m excited to start using this for my travels!

Great bag. TERRIBLE pocket zipper

I love the bag except the side zipper. There is no material that keeps the super thin lining from getting caught. Every time I open the zipper I have to open it like I’m about to wake up grandma because it will get caught if you open it at a normal speed.

Great Bag With a Serious Flaw

Just recieved. First impressions. Well made. High quality. Attractive. Voluminous cavity looks perfect for quickly packing all manner of contents from clothes to gear. So very positive, BUT: there's a stupid core design element that is making me suspect why they are discontinuing this product for a design change. If you shop a little more you'll see the new design doesn't have the glossy waterproof material coating most of the bag in the discontinued generation. I was interested in this bag in part due to the excellent review on Wirecutter. The coating made it look very weather resistant and rugged. But a deeper dive in reviews revealed a number of folks complaining about that coating delaminating. Now I understand why. The WC review noted that the duffel has a built-in in pouch that lets you fold it into the pouch for storage. Turns out this feature is horribly designed and it makes me wonder if the WC review was a bit of a phone-in. The pouch is way too small and it requires gymnastics to inverse the bag in. I suspected it was an issue when the bag arrived folded into the pouch and I had to wrestle it out. When down jackets and sleeping bags contain built-in pouches, its easy to stuff them in. The nylon and down compresses easily. But the materials of this duffle are heavy duty and rigid. Compressing these materials into this too small pouch isn't only too difficult, it clearly wrinkles the coating, stressing it and begging it to delaminate. I'm guessing Patagonia got tired of warranty claims and decided to do away with the coating. Patagonia, if your designer wasn't so stingy with the pouch size, I suspect you would have had less of them. So I'm considering returning this for the new design. If I keep it, I def won't use the built-in pouch.

Awesome long weekend bag!

Wanted this bag for long weekends, as I often don't have room for all my gear in my other bags and was tired of needing multiple bags. This bag is everything I wanted it to be(which was a lot) and more. It truly is a black hole and fits TONS of stuff, with many pockets for organization and the tie downs that come standard in luggage. The backpack straps were also a very welcome and nice convenience as my bags are usually quite heavy. Overall, I absolutely love this bag and have already recommended it to friends and am looking forward to taking it on more adventures.

Dorm room in a bag

My daughter (college student) emptied out her dorm room for the summer and stuffed the rest into her Black Holes (40L/70L/70L)! She just has to lift them now :) Gotta love it.

Just what I need!

I've had a Marmot 50L Long Hauler Duffel for years that has held up very well. That bag is great for week long trip but I've ben wanting a bigger bag for an upcoming 3 week trip to Europe and have been stalking the Black Hole Duffels for a while after seeing so many great reviews on them. I was excited to purchase this 70L on sale for a great price. The bag is sturdy and waterproof so well suited to meet the rigors of travel. The size is perfect for stuffing 3 weeks of summer clothes with room to spare for souvenoirs to bring back.

A bit pricey but built to last, only duff for me

A bit pricey, but built to last. I own this (70l) and a (60l) tired of so-so bags i tired these. They are fantastic, top quality build. The 60 works for me as a weekend bag to hold all my clothing and some gear, the 70 works well for my wife. You can really overpack these with zero worry about blowouts or broken zippers, waterproof is awesome for truck bed traveling in the rain. Seriously good bags.

Carry it with me on every multi-day trip

The black hole lives up to its name. Just when I thought it couldn't hold much more, it fully zipped 3 more shirts, it's insane. That being said, I have full confidence in it keeping intact as it's sturdy material and zipper are heavy duty. I've brought this bag to campsites, car trips, and traveling to different cities and states. I have yet to take it on a backpacking trip but, the 70L can definitely fit the checklist with a conscious effort of choosing packable and lightweight items.

Perfect for everything!

Fantastic bag! We’ve used these for fishing trips to Alaska, sailing trips in the Caribbean, safaris in Africa and 5-star resorts. They hold everything and protect your gear while stuffed in bush planes, falling off jeeps, and rides on bell carts. Stowability let’s you tuck a second one in with your things in case you come home with more than you left with!
