Carries it all!
Just purchased this bag for a domestic trip where I didn’t know how long I’d be gone. It literally fits everything inside - I’ve got multiple pairs of shoes, outfits, my computer, toiletries, etc! I love all of the compartments and pockets and the material seems very tough. Within the main compartment I use packing cubes and was able to easily fit in 2 large cubes and two medium cubes with some space to spare. While the backpack straps are great and I love being able to move through the airport easily, when I had a relatively overstuffed bag and it was quite heavy, the weight on my back got uncomfortable quickly. Would I be packing this much on a normal holiday? Probably not so I took the weight and over-stuffed factor with a grain of salt. Overall, very pleased with the bag and love that there are a lot more organization and carry options than the Black Hole duffles.

Patagonia Black Hole MLC 45L Travel Pack
The bag is great, this is the second one I've ordered. However, the bag sent to me this time has clearly been used. There are stains on the exterior, in the bag there was some animal hair, crumbs and a hair tie, as well as a tag for a NorthFace Jacket. I'm sure REI being a great company will take care of this. But If I wanted a used bag, I would have bought one.

One of the only bags you'll ever need

I got this bag after reading some great reviews from people who swear by one-bag travels. I can concur that this is exactly who this bag is for. The bag is huge and basically is the size of a carry on suitcase that you can carry in multiple ways, yet has the organization features of a tech backpack. My only complaint (and why I gave it 4 stars rather than 5) is that, depending on your size, when worn as a backpack, this bag can look HUGE on you. When I put this bag on my back it looks really bulky. However, since there are not tons of straps on the bag, it does look really clean but again, is very large and will likely not work in backpack mode for a smaller frame. Great quality.

You need one of these

I'm in love with this bag, I wish I had bought it sooner. I used it on a 10 day trip to Europe and to pack for a week long trip that included day-to-day clothing plus camping gear and have had more than enough space to pack my stuff. It was so much more convenient to carry things on my back than to roll around a suitcase. It also fit easily as a carryon on all my flights. I like that there's a laptop sleeve and tablet pocket as well. When fully packed I think it's a bit too heavy to use the long shoulder strap, but it's a nice option to have.

Fantastic bag!!

Bought this and got it shipped to India. At first I didn't think it would justify the cost + customs but I have taken it on a couple of trips now and am super happy I got it. It fits without a problem in cabin and contains all my clothes (for a 3 day trip) + shoes + even gear like climbing shoes if I wanted to. I am disappointed that the 26L is out of stock at the moment, I would buy that too in a heart beat and those two bags are pretty much all you'd need if you travel light.

Durable, well designed, would recommend

I needed a carryon for trips where I didn't want to pack a full suitcase and wanted to be able to wear as a backpack or carry by hand. The Patagonia MLC Travel pack allows me to pack a weeks worth of clothes, and bits and pieces and carry it on. The different sections make organizing very convenient over just one large bag. It has spaces for pens, smaller items like chargers and batteries which could make it a good "working" carryon. The Black Hole version is made of a vinyl fabric that seems both durable and able to handle rain no problem. I've taken this as both a carryon and a checked bag internationally and domestically and it is holding up well. Would definitely buy again and recommend.

I love it, well made, great organization

So many pockets, so many compartments. Packs full and is still great size for carryon. Would definitely recommend.

Lots of compartments

I was surprised to find so many inner compartments as there are really only 3 major zipper sections. Not a fan of the 4th zipper on the bottom side of the bag. It’s nice b/c it kids the backpack straps when not using them and it is a great spot for dirty laundry. The problem is you can’t zip it closed when using the backpack straps. I love that it’s water resistant (or maybe even proof). I bought it so that I can have a carry on that fits in overhear compartments. Hopefully this does the trick! I am happy with how much space there is in the 40L bag! Highly recommend

Best travel bag ever

Highly recommend this bag which does it all! Fits everything I need for a week away. The handles are all great and the back straps are excellent when I need my hands free. One of our team members has borrowed it so many times, we bought him one! It takes a beating and just keeps going.
