Solid choice for any winter activity
Light as a feather (but without them), has kept me warm with a midlayer at 2500m high in the Spanish Pyrenees. I have used it belaying in cold conditions, after trail running and always has performed well. Really nice desing to be usef with your harness on (high lateral zip pockets), reinforcement of the fabric on the hip area. Unless you are gonna be static below 28 degrees or so, you dont need anything heavier. And last but not least its 80% recycled!. I honetly could not be happier with it. It fits a bit baggy so get it in the smallest size you get in.
Absolutely the BEST!
I was up in Northern MI last weekend and the 45 degree mornings had me trying this out for the first time. I am 6’4” and I typically have issues with sleeve length. Not a problem with this jacket. It fits so nicely across the shoulders that the Large was great. I am a beanpole too, so the shaping and the cut was perfect too. I only had on a t-shirt under and I was plenty warm. So at 40 degrees I didn’t even have to layer up and then shed as we hit 50/55. We were on and off boats and I never was cold and never had an issue with the splash that we would get randomly from the waves. I would recommend this jacket to anyone. This is going to be a go to this Fall and Winter!!
Great daily jacket
I like this jacket, and like even more the effort Mountain Hardwear has put into making it environmentally friendly. The jacket has enough room for a base layer but still has shape and looks good on. I like the two-tone design of the jacket and the front pockets have a ton of room in them. The hood has room for a climbing helmet. Overall length is good, the jacket sits right past hip level. The sleeve length is about 2 inches past my wrists so the jacket does not pull up on my arms when driving. Seems very well constructed and it’s warm. When it’s cold, you will probably want to layer with another jacket like you would with any other lightweight puff jacket. Overall, I am happy with it.
Impressive warmth to weight ratio
I've really loved this jacket so far. My first trip with it was the second week of march where we saw temps around forty five during the day and lows near freezing in the evening. Hands down would have been five stars but as others have stated the hood is essentially useless without a drawstring in any situation. C'mon Mountain hardware, if you were going to forgo a drawstring to save a couple ounces, you may as well have ditched the hood altogether and saved even more. I gladly would have paid the same for a couple more ounces. I am however extremely satisfied with the rest of the jacket.
cut too many corners
I bought this to replace a very well used MH Thermostatic jacket. I (wrongly) assumed it would be an update of that model, but I was disappointed. I ignored other reviewers who complained about the hood, and I shouldn't have. I can understand no drawstring on a light jacket, but there's no elastic around the edge an it's wide-open to the elements. The same is true with the sleeves. This just looks like cost cutting to me: MH trying to squeeze every last buck out of the jacket. I'm taking it back and getting a Patagonia Micro Puff. Shame on you MH.
Wonderful jacket - terrible fit!
I am going to be returning this jacket for the fit and the fit alone. All other aspects of the jacket are great. My first reaction is that they took a medium jacket and then sewed on oversized sleeves - they feel disproportionate to the rest of the medium jacket. Other than the large sleeves, the rest of the jacket fits as expected (38 chest) and the sleeve lengths are great.
Awesome Jacket, all pros, no cons…
I bought this jacket for its weight, packability, and utility. I used it while hiking in the Swiss Alps and Western Tatras in late fall. Temps would be near/below freezing at times, and this jacket did its job while also shedding some light rain and allowing me to maintain a full, unrestricted range of motion. I’m 5’10”, 180lbs, and the medium fits perfect. Some have complained about the hood, but the jacket fully zipped, and a beanie on, it remains loose enough to breathe, but doesn’t come off every time the wind blows.
This.Jacket.Rocks!
I love this jacket! Nice, lightweight, packs down into a pocket for great stow-ability. My absolute favorite feature is the recycled content. Love, love, love that it there is a commitment to the environment built into this piece. Keep it up Mountain Hardwear! Fit seems true to size. I'm 5'11, 180 lbs and the jacket is roomy enough for a flannel, or something beneath, but not overly baggy anywhere. Light enough that it is comfortable on cool camping evenings unzipped with just a t-shirt, but also stayed very toasty on some mornings hovering near freezing with just a light under layer. Bonus is the hood which helps to extend the season!
Insulation Where It Counts
At first glance, I thought this jacket looked much like others out there. Very comfortable and slick, with just the right amount of insulation. The thing that stood out first was the location of the insulation. Under the arms, below the waist, and the cuffs near the hands did not have the lightly packed insulation like the rest of the jacket. I thought this was great thinking as this is a cool weather jacket, not a cold weather jacket, and I don't need the extra warmth in those areas. This helps slim the jacket down, perfect for a quick go to jacket when the weather turns cool. The hood was a little difficult to keep in place. Without a drawstring or something, I don't think I will use the hood very often. Overall, great jacket, one step above other light insulated jackets I've tried.
Just what I was looking for
Just arrived a few days ago, and I know this will be frequently worn. For me (6'1 / 195 lbs / 36 waist ) the fit is perfect. Form fitting for my build, but not restrictive. Light weight, but more than enough for today's 38 degree walk with a merino layer underneath. I plan to wear this from ~28 to 55 degrees, and it's small enough to pack and stow on a hike. Full marks. Last comment: I've experienced none of the complaints others have made about the fit around the wrists and neck / hood area. There's no drawstring or cord that tightens the hood, but I'm fine with the way it fits without one.
