Don't get them wet!
I bought a pair of these about a year ago. They were very comfortable and the soles seemed to resist wear well, which is important to me because I walk a lot. However, last weekend I wore them for the first time in a heavy rain. I did not submerge them, just walking in heavy rain. The glue holding the uppers to the soles appears to be water-soluble, as the soles immediately began to peel away from the uppers. The description of this product as "All Season" is very deceptive. Also despite some parts being waterproof, the boots as a whole are not and fall apart if you get them wet. I won't buy Kodiak again. REI - please do better for your members.
Decent Everyday Hiking Boots
I picked these up on clearance for $80, and combined my dividend fo an out the door price of $40. After a couple months with them I am happy, but I do have some concerns about long term durability because the soles are glued. I recently wore them on week long trip across Washington, Idaho, and Montana; and they performed well. The thin soles were not the best for rocky terrain, but they handled miles of trails flawlessly. These boots are on par with the original Timberland Earth Keepers, but cost a fraction of the price. I've added a dark brown polish and parachord laces.
Quality Concerns
Purchased one pair in store, but returned them when I noticed that the loop on the tongue that the lace runs through was broken. As I put one the replacement pair for the very first time, the same thing happened (see pic), during totally normal lace tightening. While not critical to the function of the boot, it doesn't suggest good design and/or quality. Will be returning (again).
Boots
I honestly love the material used on this product however, I am very disappointed with how the sole was attached to the boot. Not even a month of owning them and the glue separating the sole. Got similar boots from Walmart that lasted over a year for only 50 bucks. Considering these were 170 or so I am pretty disappointed.
Great fit not great performance
These boots were absolutely awesome… Or so I thought when I purchased them. I’m not a big-time hiker or anything I purchase these boots just for outdoor use and short hikes. I had them almost exactly one year and they began to leak. Are used them in some outdoor snow activities and they definitely are not waterproof like they say they are.
Never a problem
Moved to Minneapolis from New Orleans in January of 2018. Yes, the worst winter in 30+ years. The next day I hit REI and bought these boots and a Patagonia jacket. Serious investment for a guy that normally wears a foul weather jacket I got in the navy. These boots have been stellar. Wear them with wool socks and have never had cold feet. My advice is get some Doc Marten Dubbin wax and coat them as needed, about twice a season for me.
Good looking, bad performance
I got a lot of compliments on these boots and thought they were very nice looking. Good boot if thats an item you'd wear to a club. Only got about 60 miles in these boots before the soles started falling off due to the glue breaking down. Wouldn't recommend to anyone planning to use these for hiking.
Great Stylish Boot!
Some of the most stylish boots youlk come across. Love the material and feel of them, but definitely break them in beforehand but once they mold to your feet theyre amazing boots. Would recommend getting half a size up from your usual size. More of a style boot then an all season boot but still a very good boot.
Great all around.
Two months so far of almost daily wear. Very little, if any, break-in period required. I have gotten several compliments on these very comfortable, warm boots. I wear them daily to work, hiking, shopping, everywhere. No problems or complaints. Ordering another pair in brown in case these ever wear out.
Broke before the shoes were even tied
The leather loop attached to the tongue snapped as I pulled the laces on the first shoe. Didn't even put on the other shoe. Clean break of the leather (at least, it says it's leather). The stitching on the end of the loop was fine, ironically. Returning it before that has a chance to break too.
