I have used this jacket in all my outdoor adventures. I am stoked that it's stretches. I have had no issues with waterproof quality. I live on Vancouver Island and often see rainy weather.
Hi All! Mo Beck here from the TNF Climb Team. I've had this jacket for a little bit, but finally got to put it through the wringer at the Bozeman Ice Fest. I run pretty cold, but I'm also the kind of person to sweat no matter what once I'm climbing - even in a soft shell. I simply *could*not*believe* how breathable this jacket was while climbing- instead of sweating and then having that sweat freeze, I was comfortably dry and warm the whole climb. This jacket held up to the abuse of tossing my ice tools over my shoulder with wanton disregard for the well being of the fabric, and is slim and trim enough to toss my belay parka over comfortably. The articulated elbows climbed really, really well. Length and pockets worked perfectly under my harness.
I live in northern Europe where we get a lot of rain. I bought my first North Face Mountain Light w. Goretex at REI years ago and used it for many years without getting wet. I deicided to replace it with the SUMMIT L5 with the new membrane. In the summer months it was perfect. But unfortunately - the first time I wore it in heavy rain, it could not withstand the rain. I returned it and got a full refund.
As an alpininst I get soaked on regular basis. I live in North Europe and wet snow and extreme winds and rainfall is something I am used to, so just imagine my excitement to try this product. I will start with advantages. 1) It is windproof. 2) The hood is good as you can fit helmet under. Disadvantages: 1) First time trying it out it didn´t hold rain for 30 minutes. 2) It is black (other color was not available at my local distributor) which is not a good thing if you get injured and need to be found and rescued. 3) Didn´t dry over night in a tent (hanging). If you want a product that you can use in the city / low altitude countryside than this may be for you. If on the other hand you are alpinist, hiker, mountaineer and climb to high altitude in all weather, than you can as well skip this. This product is not better than any other I have tried and personally got really disappointed.
I Iove this jacket and am completely satisfied with my purchase. I tried it on at the beginning of last season and set an intention to buy it. Little did I know the season would end abruptly! I still purchased the jacket and use it constantly as a windbreaker on walks and for hiking. It is comfortable and versatile for outerwear!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this in order to get the best quality possible for hiking. After two months use it was no longer waterproof. Same for the pants. I got a refund.
