I purchased these Darn Tough Micro Crew / lightweight with cushion Merino wool socks for walking. I've worn them with my Keen hiking boots and they are amazing. No slipping inside my boots and tge cushioning was fine.
Darn tough socks are my absolute favorite socks for any active sport. They are what I always grab for hikes and backpacking, skiing etc. They breath so well, keep warm and cool, and they stay dry longer than most while not holding scent even during the most active endeavors. I was initially skeptical over the performance of darn tough wool socks but after years of usage, I will never consider anything but DT socks for outdoor activities. Compared to the other wool socks on the market, they have also managed to make wool socks that don't pill or fray. My other brands tend to get fuzzy and loosen up over time. Darn toughs feel like they did early on and they keep their form/fabric integrity despite the years of usage. I know they have a fantastic warranty policy but honestly I can't imagine ever needing to use it as these things are bomb proof. Its great when you finally discover those legendary products that just work and you don't need to look elsewhere.
These socks are very tight at the end on my feet, pushing in laterally on the toes. For my feet, the support/compression is just too far forward - very uncomfortable, bordering on painful. Like adding a layer that makes my shoes too narrow. Also, the sole of one sock started to snag on the first wear. They are well-reviewed in general, seem to have comfortable padding and reasonable quality other than the snag, but might not be for all shapes of foot.
Good fit, but a little disappointed in how durable they are.
One of the most comfortable socks I have ever bought from Darn Tough. Been a loyal customer for years and returned socks several times after I got holes in them from extensive use (after 4 plus years). I used this sock mostly for business events when I wear a suit but lately have switched to using it as a sock for long afternoon walks. I hope this holds up but if it doesn't, I will return it to Darn Tough and exchange for a new one. It is so rare to see a company like this stand behind the quality of its products!
The best wool socks, hands down. I've been wearing wool socks for years and have tried a number of different brands. Some others may be more comfortable, but none match the durability of these bad boys. They're not uncomfortable per se, they're just not as cushy and stretchy as some others out there. Is it worth sacrificing a little comfort for the durability? Absolutely. Not only do these socks far outlast all other pairs, but if you put a hold in them, they'll replace them. I am slowly replacing all of my socks with Darn Toughs since they are the superior sock. Couldn't recommend them more.
These are without a doubt my most used socks. I've done everything from trailwork to hiking volcanoes and these bad boys just keep chugging along. A few years in and they're still in great shape. Some of the color has faded and they're definitely wearing in, but no thin spots or holes, not even any loose threads. Curious to see when I'll use the lifetime warranty, if ever. For a pair of socks they seem a little pricey, but anyone will tell you that you absolutely save money in the long run, not mention all the benefits of such high quality (durability, odor control, good company, etc.)
I've been slowly replacing my socks with wool/synthetic blends, and these are the best I've found so far. I work long hours in the hospital, and while these still have an odor at the end of the day, they minimize it much better than the thin pure synthetics I've tried in the past. Most of mine are the quarter cut, but I like these for when I'm working in a slightly colder environment and am standing all day (e.g. the operating room).
My shoe size is 13 (US) with wide width. I bought the XL size of these Darn Tough men's Light Hiker Micro Crew Socks and found them to be very constrictive at the front of the foot, almost like wearing an elastic bandage. They were ok in the length, but just too tight.
I’ve had this socks bought last Christmas and been wearing it for long day hikes , it’s very comfortable. One time I wore it for 3 days straight in Sequoia National park during the winter and it didn’t even smell abive all it kept my feet warm. Perfect pair with my vasque hiking shoes. I will buy more for the whole family. And the best thing is the lifetime warranty.
