Wish It Came In a Wool Cotton Blend

I have a 44" chest with 36" waist and Large fits good with a standard fit. Very well put together vest. Very soft with moderate heat retention. I get hot easily and this is offers a good option for keeping my core warm without burning up. The only thing I wish was that Patagonia would offer a merino/cotton blend. This is 100% polyester plastic. The garment might last longer but it aids in static electricity when it is dry out and releases microscopic plastic particles back into the water supply. Wool and cotton are a much more ecological resource. When this polyester Patagonia vest eventually ends up in the landfill, it will never decompose and will instead be permanent pollution.

A standard for fall and winter

It’s been a standard of mine for years, third one in as many years. Two down falls of the vest are that the wind blows right through this material and it pills terribly. Knowing those two things hasn’t prohibited me from buying three over the years. Quality is all Patagonia, it doesn’t like to be washed in a washing machine despite what the tag says, hand wash it, don’t dry it in the dryer let it hang or lay flat on a towel. Other than that a tape roller becomes a necessary tool if you have a dog. Dog hair is attracted to this vest like nut jobs to politics. The hair hangs on like a third term senator too! Fact is you can’t find a better fleece vest.

Try not to to wash it...

The vest is warm but after 2 washings it look very worn. I can tell it won’t last more than one year.

Perfect vest: size runs little small

It's everything I wanted in the body core warmth vest, material, feel, and look. Had to send the package back, and order the next size up. I always opt for XL, to allow a little room for layering. The single X was not tight, but it was snug, and would not allow for layering for my desired daily utility with the vest. So this vest, i had to send back and get the XX L. I've only had to do that with aftermarket cotton T-shirt manufacturers (concert Ts, and that sort of thing). I don't recall having to purchase a garment like this using double X large. Suffice to say, it's just a tad small, if ordering online, recommend going next one up, if you prefer the space for layering over your clothes.

Comfortable, lightweight, durable, athletic fit.

I was looking for a lightweight mid layer to keep my core temperature up without restricting arm movement, for an extended field project, and this vest was a good find. Pretty snug, tailored, athletic fit, but not to the point of feeling tight, or restricting movement. Comfortable fabric, and the zipped up collar layered well with my smartwool neck gater on some single-digit temperature days. And the tailored fit also meant that it did not bulk up under my shell, so it was not encumbering at all. Not very thick or warm by itself, but a solid addition.

Love the vest but recommend trying it in store 1st

I’m a loyal Patagonia buyer and love the quality of the vest. That said, I’m tall (6’6”) with a bit of a belly, but not much compared to my height. The large wasn’t long enough and right on the border of being too tight. The XL was long enough but ended up being too baggy. For all the “normal” sized folks, I highly recommend this vest. For those big and/or tall folks, I recommend trying them on in a store first.

Patagonia decreased quality

Patagonia has decreased its quality while still charging a premium. Patagonia has chosen to only line this garment where the pockets are located giving me the impression that corners were cut to increase their profits while sacrificing quality. I own many Patagonia products and have noticed a decrease in quality over the past years.

I bought this for my dad as a birthday gift and he loved it! He has a black Patagonia vest, but liked the cloth one. He has been layering it with so many different outfits.

Great vest only one wish!

I purchased this vest a few weeks ago and overall really like it, perfect for a 40-60 degree day with a long sleeve shirt. The material is amazingly comfortable and it is lined so even my scruffy beard does not pull when zipped up. The fit it excellent and true to size. I am 6’1”, about 170lbs, with a 32 inch waist, and 44 inch chest and a large fits perfect. The only wish I have is that the zipper was two way for when I sit or get in the car as I don’t want to stretch out the waist. Most of my really great coats and vests have this.
