Today was my inaugural trip in the boat— a 5-hour paddle down a meandering river with a moderate current, low water and lots of obstacles and maneuvering required. The boat is very stable, responds quickly, and tracks nicely. The seat was very comfortable and gave me a lot of back support. The cockpit is very wide so it’s easy to get in and out of the boat. It does feel plasticky, which I don’t love, but it is durable. The drink holder in the front is very convenient and I had my phone and keys in a plastic bag in the front bag compartment which worked well. I appreciate the rear compartment too. It wasn’t cheap, but it was a fair price for the quality and has a more thoughtful design and is more comfortable than some of the cheaper boats. Overall, I’m pleased with the purchase and was happy to get out on the water. I will also be using it on lakes so I wanted some thing that would be easy and versatile.
I’m new to kayaking and I’m using this mostly in a bay on the ocean. First time out I had 1-3 ft waves and strong winds. I was very stable and did 3 miles in these conditions comfortably. I’m 6 ft and 215 lbs. Great storage places (2 bottle holders, dry pocket, and big space in the back, and of course on top). Only downside is that I can’t figure out how to get splashwater out of the cockpit. The drain plug is in an area where the water can’t get. So I now carry a small bilge pump.
Great kayak for anyone just starting the sport or for fairly smooth rivers & lakes. Nice drink holder. Main complaint is the non-functional drain plug. It does not seem to drain anything. Also, the “water resistant” compartment in front is easily dislodged by knees since it is not entirely secure in kayak frame. A bit heavy, but tracks well and comfortable. If over 6 feet tall knees will have to squeeze in due to front “dashboard”.
