Works on a 2012 El Mariachi and Selma Ti
This is a nice sturdy mid-sized rack that works great with our older Salsa hardtails with Alternator dropouts, disc brakes, and Rohloff Hubs. (It would work fine with a standard derailer also.) We have no braze ons so this along with a Salsa rack lock seat collar made for a sturdy connection. I only bought one rack to share between bikes as we don't need panniers all that often, but it's a bit of work to switch back and forth. It cones with all needed hardware and adequate instructions, but you have to pay attention as our different frame materials require different sized bolts (which are all included).
Perfect for Salsa Timberjack
Installation was an absolute breeze, surprisingly quick and intuitive. I was also fortunate to find one in stock at REI when I needed it last minute. Once installed, the rack worked perfectly with my Ortlieb panniers. Its robust construction makes it ideal for any adventure. Highly recommended for its reliability, ease of installation, and exceptional functionality!
Product NOT compatible with 2023 Salsa Timberjack
The product seems fine. However, there is out of date information in the Q&A on this product that was answered by REI 3+ years ago saying it was compatible -> this rack is no longer compatible with the Salsa Timberjack SLX 29 as of at least the 2023 model. I bought the rack on line at the same time I ordered the bike, and was suspicious of the rack being compatible since I didnt see any obvious bosses in the online photo of the bike but I gave it the benefit of the doubt due the Q&A - so also my bad for trusting the answer despite that. Salsa should keep up to date compatibility tables on what racks fit on what specific bike models.
Great Rack W/ More Info
Decided I wanted a rack for my Timberjack and went with the Salsa brand to keep it straight forward. However after I received this I found out I also needed a new seat collar made for racks. Another $30 and install was straight forward. Is very solid and looks good on the bike.
