This is my second Osprey Tempest 20. After five years of traveling around the world with me and accompanying me on untold miles of hiking and biking it was time for a new one. I am a day hiker and this size comfortably accommodates extra clothing, lunch, first aid kit and all the necessities for long hikes. Plenty of pockets and straps to keep handy the items I need to grab while hiking Even with a full 3 L hydration pack it never feels heavy on my back or shoulders. I ordered it online and took it into an REI store we are a knowledgeable sales associate made all the adjustments so it fits me properly.
I spent so much time researching before purchasing this bag that I had really high hopes. The bag itself is a gorgeous color and it had plenty of storage and pockets however it only took an hour or two of wearing before I became extremely uncomfortable. The top inside of the back of the bag has a very hard edge and foam beneath the mesh comes to a point exactly where the bag hit the top of my spine. I was so uncomfortable I was looking forward to my hike ending. One of the REI staff said he’s heard some people with certain body builds have this problem with the Osprey packs and looking at others (non-hydration) at the store this hard edge seems to be consistent in a lot of their packs. I returned it and went with a Patagonia bag.
