Preferred active layer
Best option I've found among the 10+ jackets I've tried (and returned). With my shoulder:waist ration (93 cm, 72cm), then often I find jackets to be tight and restricting around the shoulders (also sits way up high in my armpit...), and bulky around the waist making it impossible to clip gear to my harness when climbing. The proton lt does fit me pretty well - Ideally it would be more snug around my waist. I've added photos to illustrate the extra space. But I have room to move, space to wear layers underneath, and love the accessible chest pocket on the outside :-D And it works kinda alright underneath a harness. (For reference I've tried the atom lt in s and m. The m fit my shoulders, but was way too bulky around my waist, the s fit my waist, but I couldn't move my arms properly and it was all up in my armpits...)
Best hoody I’ve ever owned!
I bought this hoody about a year and a half ago and can say that I’ve worn it every day for about 95% of that time frame. I bike commute year round and this has been my go to to put on paired with an Arc’teryx Outershell to keep the wind, rain, and sleet at bay. During the summers, I always keep this handy in my backpack for when I walk into a cool building. It’s always the right amount of warmth for me. My favorite feature is the breast pocket that allows my phone to be quickly accessible whether for photos or to call someone when I have a flat :) Thank you for the awesome amount of quality and attention to detail that has made this my go-to jacket every day!
Proton is out of this world!
If you don’t own one or three of these jackets you are missing out! This active insulation mid layer can be worn as a stand alone or layered under/over other garments. I wear this jacket everyday working on the slopes and I’m always warm and cozy without overheating and sweating. Arcteryx offers so many different color choices it’s hard to choose. Hands down if you enjoy outside activities you owe it to yourself to invest in this piece.
"Take-me anywhere" hoodie
I love how lightweight this little jacket is and how well it breathes. It's very stretchy, allowing for full range of motion in my arms which makes it an ideal crag companion. My climbing harness fits securely over the Proton for chilly mornings and the hood is helmet compatible. I like that it’s water resistant and how well it blocks wind – the stretch-knit cuffs really do their job. Along with being a totally functioning climbing layer, it’s also a pretty stylish cut - would happily wear around town and to work. I haven’t taken the Proton out into the snow yet but am excited to take it skiing next winter! Sizing: I am 125lbs/5’5 and a small fits me comfortably.
Best Arc'teryx Purchase Yet!
I purchased the Proton LT and the Atom LT... the proton has easily become my favourite and is worth the extra few $. It is slim (not tight), and not as tight as the Atom, breathes well and is awesome to travel with. It is such a great layer that will keep you dry if it is lightly snowing or raining, it will keep you warm as a layering piece without causing you to overheat, and my favourite part is how nice it looks to just run errands in. I have also found that even after a higher output activity, if I hang it up overnight it is ready to go and doesn't retain stink! Easy to wash and care for as well. I'm 5'4, athletic build at 64kgs and ordered a small.
Fav Jacket!!
Took this backpacking 2 weekends ago – wasn’t sure if it was going to be “warm enough”. Temps dropped to 40 °F at night and I was fine with a base layer (merino wool), light sweater, this jacket and gloves. Wasn’t too bulky and was warm enough (I’m very cold blooded, run much colder than others). Typically, my go to for day hikes and high elevation hikes during the summer (where temps are warmer, but wind is tough so makes it feel colder, like 14ers. Still a base layer, light sweater and this). Overall weigh of the jacket is light too – doesn’t feel bulky, but still keeps me comfortable.
So far, so good.
I purchased this as a mid layer for cold outdoor adventures. So far I've only gotten to wear this in an urban setting and bike commuting. Seems very breathable while staying warm and cozy. The fit is very comfortable with plenty of layering room. I'm 5'5" and 127lbs with small chest & broad shoulders. I got the yellow color (thinking safety) and it's way nicer in person than in the pics. Material is kinda stretchy, great for movement. I like the snug cuffs. The only slightly awkward area is the height at the chin area. If the hood isn't up, the zipper area is pressed against my face. I'm stoked to take it out for some cold weather, high energy output adventures.
Lightweight, Warm Hoodie
The jacket is extremely lightweight, warm, and breathable. I've worn it running errands, on bike rides, and walking my dog. The Proton LT Hoodie works great for all of these. Kept me nice and warm on cool mornings, and I didn't overheat once the day warmed up. Really excited to wear it under a rain jacket for hunting this fall. Love the chest pocket-big enough for everything and protected from the weather. Only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the cuffs. The lycra stretches over my watch (which is nice), but I would prefer narrower cuffs. It fits great; somewhat fitted, but large enough to go over a sweatshirt. Length was good, hits me mid bottom area. I am very long waisted so nice to have a regular sized jacket hit below the waist. I'm 5'8", 155 lbs and got a medium.
Just the jacket I was looking for. Worn everyday
Love this jacket! Amazing for every day use to and from the car in 30 degree weather, ice skating, XC skiing. Provides alomost 100% wind protection and with the hood up I don't even have to wear ear warmers. Will buy again if anything happens to this jacket. One downside, the light colored pocket gets discolored where the zipper pull rubs against the environment.
Great versatile high-output piece
I love this piece. As long as I am moving I do not overheat and it breathes incredibly well. It does take movement to capture heat and get me warm, but when it does It keeps me warm without overheating. More windbreak than I expected for a high output piece. The fit is active/trim, and I can't layer much underneath besides a base layer and MAYBE a flannel. I bought the Proton LT in a Size Small when I typically hover between Extra Small and Small sizes for Arcteryx. The cuff is snug and I struggle to access my watch, which is annoying. Overall it is a great synthetic piece for when it is too wet outside for down.
