Awesome fit , fast shipping love if !!
Lovet it perfect fit, easy to install !! Love thule products all the way! It's classy
Fast shipping, defective pieces
I love REi, always fast shipping, only complaint: on one edge and in a similar spot of every single piece, the rubberized surface over the aluminum was missing exposing the aluminum underneath. In Hawaii, where I live, this is a big deal since the salty air will find this and start corroding the aluminum from the inside out. I could research what coating they use and figure out how to make the coating adhere, and paint over it but for the price I shouldn’t have to.
Great fit and excellent modularity
Thule makes, without a doubt, the most versatile and module roof rack system in the world. It's built strong and sturdy (on par with major competitors), fits extremely well (much more so than competing systems), and is incredibly modular. Have a new car but still want to keep your beloved (and expensive) Thule rack? Don't worry - just buy a new fit-kit and your roof rack will keep serving you well! This rack went from my VW to my Volvo, and the fit-kit ensured a perfect fit without having to re-purchase an entire rack. The fitment is precise and incredibly secure - I've had Yakima and Rhino racks fly off my car on the road (yeah, that's not fun) destroying thousands of dollars of equipment. The Thule fit kit ensures OEM-like fitment and security. The instructions are clear and concise, including measurements so you can be sure of getting it 'right'. It does take a minute and you do have to pay attention to the details (as with anything) but the payoff is fitment that is unparalleled in the industry. There's a reason Thule racks cost a little more, and they're worth every penny. If you're considering a Thule rack and trying to compare it to Yakima or Rhino, there's no comparison. The modularity alone makes it worth the price, and the security and fit seal the deal. YMMV.
After installation you can't fully open sunroof
While I imagine that you can get used to not using the sunroof, it's far too easy to accidentally open on our Prius. We almost couldn't get it to fully close after trying for the first time. I really never considered that once installed, this kit would prevent us from opening the sunroof. We can crack it but cannot fully open it. We haven't used it yet but I think that it's going work out. We have another car with a Yakima rack and this one is seems so much better. Well, except for the sunroof issue.
Thule Boxlift 571
I have only 20 inches above open garage door so I could not place the roll up mechanism in the center. I moved it to one end so that the ropes all come from the same direction. I drilled two more holes in each bracket and used bigger hardware. At first I was put off by the hinged pulleys, but they are working just fine. the small diameter shaft required lots of cranking so I slipped a piece of PEX tubing over the shaft to enlarge the diameter. It works really well. As for the rope provided with the kit, it was fine, but I replaced it with some 550 paracord. Overall I'm very pleased with the results.
was sent an obviously used product
I got this delivered to the REI store and when I picked it up the packaging was extremely damaged. So I opened it in the store in front of the REI employee, and it was extremely obvious to both of us that this was a used product that I paid full retail price for. He apologized and suggested I return it. It had wear significant wear at all the touch points and scratches where all the screws go. I was very disappointed and forced to return it.
Seems solid so far
I got the Evo 135 roof bars, and the feet and fit kit for my '17 Jetta. Installation was straightforward, though as other people noted the width numbers for the installation were a bit off. So far it seems solid. There is a bit more road noise with them on, but that is to be expected. The only problem so far is that when driving during heavy rain we had a significant amount of leakage through both of the back windows. The fit kit has a different bracket there and it seems to mess with the door seal more than the front. We're about to take the first road trip with the bike rack and bike attached, so hopefully I'll have good things to report after that. And hopefully it won't rain much.
It does fit
I initially had the same problem as the previous reviewer, also on my 2016 HR-V, but then we realized there was still room to open the Clamp further with the included Allen wrench, and that solved the problem. We also initially measured the “W” incorrectly, so pay close attention to the illustrations. Overall, it was easy to assemble and install if you are remotely handy.
Thule Rejected My Last Review
Will they do it again? The roof rack was very difficult to attach to my Prius v. Thule makes it difficult by creating instructions that are too general and not specific to the kit given. Thus, unless you have done it before, it will take lots of time to figure out very simple stuff. So, my advice--lay out everything and make certain it's in the right order. I took apart my racks three times before all the pieces were correctly placed. Also, make certain the decorative caps are snapped in as two of mine blew off and now the rack looks even more poorly designed.
Thank you for sharing your feedback on the Thule FitKit 145129. According to our moderation records, your prior review was removed for violating community standards for generally inappropriate langauge. Thule roof rack systems include vehicle-specific mounting instructions to ensure the specially-designed FitKit attaches to the correct and most supportive area of the vehicle. This process may be more involved than more general roof rack fits to ensure a strong hold. A second person makes this process much easier as they can help position the crossbars and ensure they do not move while tightening in place. Measurements did not work for my 2016 Honda HRV
I'm not sure if this is due to the kit or the measurements provided, but I could not get this kit to fit properly on my 2016 Honda HRV. The X/Y measurements were so off, there was no physical way I could attach it to the car without making modifications. I struggled with it for about 2 hours fiddling with the placement until I managed to fit 2 of the four pads in the correct positions. I gave up on the other two, but the rack is still solid. Just did about 600km with it on the roof and it's still there, so I guess it works, but the installation was a brutal experience.
