Great Low Profile Kayak Rack
I’ve only used these kayak racks a few times but I’m completely happy with them. The t-slot attachment system is a great feature. It’s designed to work with the Thule cross bars but it’s also compatible with other systems. I have a Leitner ASC rack on my Toyota Tundra and these racks fit perfectly into the Leitner tracks. This system also makes it quick and easy to remove and install the kayak carriers (no tools required). Being able to fold the racks down is another plus. Even on a full sized truck, I can still go through the car wash with them installed (I did double check the height before doing so). The overall black finish matches the other accessories on the truck so that’s an added plus. Overall the racks perform great and look good on the truck too! I’d highly recommend them.
Great upgrade!
Excellent upgrade from previous Hull-a-Port. Really like the quick release tolower them down and the locking mechanism allows for leaving them on.
Perfect rack
Bought this to haul my sea kayak. Works great, just using the straps it comes with felt very secure. I have a Rhino aero rack and the t-slot bolts of the Thule fit perfect! Doesn’t make any noticeable noise on the highway when not in use and folded down. Installation took 20 minutes.
Secure and best kayak rack!
How’s it going fellow kayak people? I currently have a 13 foot Perception kayak and have had zero problems. I would definitely recommend this for anyone that has one kayak or a set of two as you’re able to use two of these on one rack. This is the least ugly, easy to install and secure kayak rack on the market in my opinion. It even comes with everything that you need Including additional blue straps for highway driving. I have found the additional straps are not needed-yes it’s that Secure and quite. I have had this for over two years now. As a fellow Thule brand rack buyer, The drawback with Thule is that you have to buy the lock sets that are sold separately. I have been to multiple areas including downtown Chicago, downtown Milwaukee and other high traffic areas with other Kayakers and folks around. I am not sure why people are stating this is not secure and maybe did not install the locks correctly however I have had zero lock issues. 10/10 recommend.
Overall satisfaction
I have not used my roof rack system for kayaks as of yet. the weather has changed and would be to cool to go into the water. Assembly of the system was easy. I did take out all the parts and look at the instructions. Partially assembled the system before placing it on my vehicle. It was quite simple. Once i have used the system i can update my review or add a new review. On-line it should show exactly what comes with what kit and pictures should be available as a breakdown. I did purchase items that were already in the kit and spent extra money i did not have to.
Great updates
I have 2 of these on my thule xsporter load bars. I tried it in clamp on and t track moving. The new clank is much easier and more animating of the large bars than before. In task mode xi have more usable bar space to work with. Only negatives: there is a slight whistle and the boats are less vertical than previous hull a port, so it will be tight going 4 across. I didn't read everything before ordering so I didn't plan on lock cores but the extra option to make it slightly more difficult to steal the rack is nice.
Good reliable kayak rack
I purchased 2 sets of these to transport a couple Dagger Zydeco 9.0. These come with everything you need to transport your kayaks around. I bought some extra straps for the guy lines but they were not needed. These also come with locks to install with keys so it is an added bonus. I already have the Aero blades so they slid right in with no problems and locked down into place. The kayaks get strapped down super securely with no issues, I am pretty impressed with these and would recommend them to anyone.
weak locks
Product looks and feels top end but the lock that is supposed to lock the cover to the swivel nuts that mate the Hull-a-Port to the Wing Bar is weak. When locked it does not take much effort to force open the compartment cover as I discovered when I thought the cover was unlocked. hope no one else discovers this while I am out kayaking. Examining where the lock engages I see that it is a plastic recess that a little force can easily overcome. For the price I thought it would be better made.
Looks great, easy to install, but...
I bought the aero blade cross bars (excellent and quiet) and mounted these for my 10' and 12' Evoke kayaks. Although they were super easy to install to the aero blade and they look awesome, what is virtually intolerable from a company like Thule is that these things whistle fairly loudly at speed (anything about 20 30 mph) when stowed and not carrying a kayak. Drives me nuts! I wish Thule came up with a solution to this otherwise great product.
Good rack, horrible instructions
Like the rack but the instructions are horrible. I’m usually pretty good at understanding instructions that use only pictographs but some of these are not obvious to the meaning. Nearly broke the rack unfolding the arm because it wasn’t clear to pull on a leaver. Please add an image of a hand pulling the leaver to open.
