Simple and Sturdy
These bars were very easy to assemble. The Square bars provide plenty of rock solid structural support for my Thule carrier. The carrier claws grip very tightly to the bars as well.
Love the bar, hate Thule
The bar and feet are exceptional, but I’m disgusted with Thule for constantly ‘improving’ products so older versions can’t work with newer ones. Example, I not only had to buy a new bar because my aero bar didn’t work with an older version of the Hullavator, I had to buy updated feet because my existing feet don’t work with the new bar. Thule seems to treat their customers like ATM machines.
Evo Bar Railing Poorly designed
Thule now requires railings and mounts specific to make and model. As a result of Thule failure to extend the bottom groove in the bar, customers are no longer able to get extra space required for other Thule products. I can no longer fit my Thule Force Box and my 724 ski racks on the recommended 53" bar nor will the 60" bar fit my roof rails as the foot mounting groove is ~2" to short. Thule used to be well engineered, but this oversight suggests they want you to buy new products- as their old stuff might not fit anymore. Tech support zero help!
Works great on e92
Bought the square bar evo kit for my e92, first great and looks good. Great quality and reasonably priced.
Great profile with a drawback
Got these bars to fit the roof rack on my new car while still being able to keep my old school trays. The bars themselves are great quality. They attach through a compression of a piece of the footpads that slides through a slit in the bar. I like this system - keeps the bars low profile, but there is a drawback. When the footpads are loosened from the car's roof rails, the whole system loosens up meaning that the bars can now slide laterally. In the old system, you could remove the whole assembly from the car in one solid piece and put it back on when you needed to haul your bikes or whatever. Now the whole thing needs to be readjusted when putting it back on the car. Not a huge deal, but enough to make a bit of a difference. One more thing - the bars I ordered were missing two of the end caps. The package had clearly been opened and returned. It was too much of a pain to return the bars for this since I happened to have an extra set of endcaps, though they don't match the new ones.
How to stop wind noise
I have Thule square bars and have found the best way to get rid of wind noise is to warp a 3ft bungee cord around front bar, noise gone!
Excellent product. Simple and secure.
I purchased these square bars for my 2020 Subaru Crosstrek with parallel side rails already installed. Installation was a little confusing. I recommend watching a YouTube video and having a measuring tape handy to make sure it's accurately distanced from the front of your car and between the bars. I've already used it to carry my surfboard and I am very pleased with how secure they are. I've heard others complain about the "noise" these make when driving, but it is very minor and only audible at speeds 50+ mph.
Wrong size bar
The website suggested a 4 ft bar for my 2020 Tucson, but that width wouldn’t hold my 2 kayaks so I ordered a 5 ft bar. These bars have a slot on the bottom of the bars on both ends. To my shock, the slots weren’t long enough to fit the attachments that attach the bars to the car. I had to get a power tool to cut and make all 4 slots 2 inches longer. I bought the bars and the attachments (which are specific for my car) on one order with Thule. No one told me the 5 ft bar wouldn’t work! And even more annoying, was that Thule didn’t design those slots to make them 2 inches longer in the first place. Luckily, the modified bars are now on the car and are working fine.
Used and missing all four end caps
Ordered on May 17, 2020 during the sale. Product came opened and dated 2018/12/11. The bars themselves look good despite clearly being used. I have been unable to install them because they are missing all four end caps. Currently working with Thule to obtain replacement caps. This is supposed to be a premium item and am hopeful of Thule's response.
Not universal fit
I ordered the 60 inch length square bar to accommodate two solo canoes side by side on top of my 2018 Rav4 with side rails. It was not clear to me when ordering, that the tracks on the bottom of the bar are not full length and therefore the feet would not adjust to be narrow enough to fit on my side rails. Customer service suggested that if I wanted longer length, to go with the ProBar 69 inch option which is much more universal. Have not received that in the mail yet, hoping that does the trick. Otherwise the product seems well made and sturdy. Just disappointed how unclear the description was.
Hi Tracy, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on the Thule SquareBar Evo. I'm sorry the information on recommended lengths was not clear when you purchased your roof rack. The online Thule Fit Guide (available here:https://www.thule.com/en-us/fit-my-car) provides the crossbar length for each vehicle, as determined by Thule Fit Engineers. As you said, the Thule ProBar has a more universal fit and can attach to virtually any vehicle compatible with a Thule roof rack system. I hope you enjoy the crossbars!
