2-year backpacking trip tested! LOVE IT!
Fits anything and everything. I've never needed more. Compacts tight if you're carrying less. Long full side zipper is essential to the reason I bought this pack. i don't like digging through my pack to get things out. This one is like a suitcase, that is comfy, airy, and light! I traveled with other friends that had top loading packs and they're space was always a MESS, since they had to dump the whole thing out constantly. I am always able to bring whatever I want on trips and the belt helps support the weight. It never feels that heavy! I usually wear the small pack on the front to help balance the weight. My pack is never over 50lbs! Even full, it's usually 25lbs. It's carryon size!! *double check ryanair in Europe. I've had it for 5 years now and I still use it daily to take my computer to the office and on weekends to go climbing! It doesn't even look dirty!?! It's been to +50 countries in ALL weather conditions! It is THEE bag for travelers! See more @celia_traveling_teacher on instagram.
Wonderful bag
I bought this bag for a trip to Morocco, where I knew we'd be doing some walking just to get to our hotels (down alleys that are not accessible by car...). I love that it packs up nicely if you want to check it - it's quick and easy to tuck the straps inside the zip-up pouch and lock it up, with nothing hanging off, including TSA locks, as the main compartment zipper becomes completely covered by the straps that lock over the day pack. The carry handle on the side is nicely padded, so it is comfortable to lug around after you have the straps put away (though a tad off-balance). I have successfully carried this on at least 3 flights so far (with the XS/S size bag, not the larger version). The smaller version comes in at around 23 inches tall - airline maximum is usually 22.5 inches - but the "frame" is somewhat flexible so you can fit it into most test bins at the airport (I did check this once, and it fit just fine). I have never been called out by any airline personnel while trying to carry it on though. It looks pretty large with the day pack attached, but if you take that off as your "personal" item, the pack itself looks reasonable as a carry-on. It fits easily in overhead bins. FYI, my husband has the S/M 70-L [men's] Farpoint, and he is also able to carry that on without any issues. The pack is NOT meant for actual backpacking - the straps are kinda skimpy in the padded areas, so it's not the most comfortable to carry for miles and miles when fully loaded. The hip pads could definitely be bigger - they don't even reach the front of my hips when I'm strapped in, and I have fairly narrow hips. But, decent enough for short treks when you would otherwise need to carry your luggage by hand! The shoulder straps are fully adjustable and definitely help to balance the load. This pack is well-designed for a woman's frame - the shoulder straps are closer together than on the men's pack, and they taper inward over the top part of the chest so that you can easily connect the strap above your chest, which is also adjustable, height-wise. I do wish there were a few pockets on the inside of the main pack - there are none. The day pack itself has a few pockets inside/outside that work well, but the day pack is fairly small - when I'm checking the main bag, I usually carry on the day pack, and inside that I can fit a change of clothes, some water, my [small] neck pillow, and a few snacks, and that's about it. I was able to fit 2 weeks worth of clothes in the main pack for my Morocco trip - it was tight but I made it work. Overall, this is a great bag for traveling, and it is now my go-to for most international trips! The quality is great, and I can tell it will likely last me a lifetime.
Who needs a bus?
Took this pack to Europe for some solo-adventuring. I nearly took my beat up old Ariel and am so happy that I splurged on a new travel bag. It's surprisingly comfortable worn as a pack. I opted out of waiting for the bus on several occasions in both Paris and Bordeaux because walking was so easy and comfortable. It handles well as a duffel too thanks to the thick handle. The day pack is super convenient though only appropriate for light loads. I'm not a particularly light a traveler but this pack was more than adequate for a month of touring. Highly recommended!
love this bag
I recently purchased this bag for a trip to Australia, having the option to zip away the straps was great. meant they wouldn't get damaged on the flight. the capacity of the bag was amazing, the hip straps made the bag easy to carry when i had it completely full. only thing it lacked was a bit of support, or a way to ventilate my back, it got so sweaty! but other then that it was a good purchase. the day pack came in handy, only wished the day pack was slightly bigger as well. could have used more pockets for sure though... would 100% recommend this bag
