I've had this harness for about a month and it's my first one. I got it because I have a very small waist, and in this harness the adjustable strap on the waist is fully slidable--the entire strap slides that gets shortened when you tighten it slides within the harness waist belt, so that you can cinch it very small and still have it centered, if that makes sense. This feature was not found on any of the other harnesses I found. I have worn this rock climbing, and I also wore this for over 10 hours while summiting Mount Shasta, and it was so comfy I didn't get any irritation or even notice it was on really, even for hours. Highly recommend!
The Jayne III has been an awesome first harness for me! I purchased it pretty early in my climbing career because the size small Petzl harnesses at my local gym weren't cinching down far enough on my waist. Shopping for harnesses was similarly difficult -- my waist is about 24", so I was pushing the size range on a Petzl Corax and would've been cinching a BD Momentum all the way down. The Jayne III totally saved the day! Edelrid does an awesome job of catering to smaller climbers and using sustainable materials. I hardly notice the harness is on when I climb and it's comfortable to hang around in after a fall.
It's done fine for the price point but I've realized since buying the Jane3 that the Jane1 actually has some better features. The Jane3 is really hit or miss for me as far as where it sits with comfort. I've noticed on multiple occasions a thigh strap digging so strong into my crotch while belaying that my leg started going numb and that just sucks. I like Edelrid but I would not buy this harness again. My next harness will probably be either a Solaris by Edelrid or a more minimalist Petzl or Black Diamond harness, not sure yet. I would try out a Jayne1 before getting a 3, plus the 1s are on sale now for pretty cheap.
If you are a fellow "long torso" or "high-waisted" woman, this is most likely not going to work for you. Everything about it was great, construction, design, it was fine, but it's definitely made for shorter women. For reference, I have about a 14" rise from my crotch to my natural waist. It seems like all the Jayne harnesses are designed for lower rises.
I have a 40 inch waist and not many climbing harnesses run that large! This one is comfortable for my larger body, and super comfortable on my larger thighs as well. Also, I'm 5'9" and didn't have a problem with the waist level. My only complaint about the harness is that there is not a back center loop as I like to hang my chalk bag in my exact back center.
I have relatively large thighs and a relatively small waist. BD Solution would never work for me. I tried a large BD momentum on and the legs barely fit while the waist could not cinch down small enough to keep me safe. This harness in size medium fits perfectly, and it’s very comfortable. I hate the colors, but what’s new with women’s outdoor gear.
I bought this last week and love it. It's not droopy or saggy like so many others I see and it's really comfortable.
11 year old daughter needed a harness, she's very tall with high hips and is slender. The Jayne had the most adjustability for her size without going with a child size harness. She also find its pretty comfortable and likes that the strap to tighten is on the right hand side.
Likely a solid harness but it arrived misconstructed so that the leg loops and waist belt couldn't operate in the correct directions without the belay loop being twisted. Tried to see if it could be untwisted but it is a construction problem that is unfixable
After renting some Black Diamond harnesses at climbing places, I got this harness on sale from REI. Shipping was quick, harness fits great, and it was a great deal. I’m thrilled with this purchase for sure!
