As other reviewers have said, these boots have a design flaw where the tongue is sewn into the side of the boot strangely, so the fabric bunches up and makes an incredibly uncomfortable bump. I contacted Merrell about it, and they confirmed it's a systemic problem and told me to return the boot to REI. Thanks REI for the great return policy! p.s. If they didn't have this flaw, they would have been awesome -- gore-tex, arctic grip, aerogel. I'm sad they didn't work out.
Purchased the mid height Thermo Rogue and love the design, fit and style. Unfortunately, after wearing the boot around the house for less than 10 minutes, the gusset plate that attaches the upper boot lace hooks sit directly on my ankle bone. A few steps walking in the house resulted in pain. Had to return the boots. I'm a long-time Merrell boot support.....have hiked hundreds of miles in its boots. I was glad the company said it will re-design / cover up the plate... You may want to wait until the new design is out.
Wearing regular hiking boots in winter has left my feet felling like wood by the end of the hike and subsequent residual stiffness in my big toes all year. I bought these to see if I could make my feet warmer and they came through! I wore them around the house and they quickly felt like slippers. They are very light. On a subsequent snowshoe trip in 20 degree weather the boots performed as advertised. Due to long term abuse my toes got a little cold but nothing like in the past. By the time we were back at the car my feet were warm. They were comfortable and there were no hot spots after 6 miles and 1300 feet vertical gain and descent. Though a little pricy I would definitely recommend these boots.
These boots fit great, but unfortunately they hurt my ankles. I noticed it was a hard portion of the tongue that was causing my discomfort, so I tried to walk it off around my house. It only got worse. Had to return.
I bought these for my dad and he loves them. He works outside in the cold and when it snowed he said they were perfect. Definitely worth a buy and for this bi polar NYC weather they are going to be perfect.
Got these today. Unpacked them, laced them up and like a glove! Nice open toe box. Really solid footing. Walked on icy trails and noticed an immediate difference with traction (I also wear Oboz). Wasn't super cold- 30 degrees but feet were fine. These will likely become my go-to's. Nice work Merrell!
After 2 months of use these have proven to be waterproof, breath well, comfortable and well constructed.
tongue flap attachment at sides hits directly over medial malleolus and causes severe pain. Sending them right back!
