I bought these boots for my trip to Iceland last month. Very happy with how they performed. My feet were kept dry and warm. The grip on the sole was useful for black ice on streets walking about Reykjavik. I even was able to use them glacier hiking with crampons attached. For being a boot they were not as heavy to walk around in all day compared to other hiking boots. Definitely feel I got my money’s worth use out of these boots on this trip. Wore them every day there......would highly recommend if you don’t wanna lug snow boots there as an versatile alternative.
These boots were very disappointing for multiple reasons. To me, the only good part about this boot is that they are lightweight, they dry quick, and the vibram sole is pretty sweet. It's very obvious though that Merrell didn't have anyone test this boot. I took them on two backpacking trips and have taking them out in the snow, ice multiple times. These boots are about $200 so you would think they would last more than a year. I've these boots for six months and they are falling apart. The "flex" toe is coming off basically making the shoe not waterproof. Also Merrell uses some sort of "sock" design for their boots that caused the insole to come out if you pull your foot out. That's crazy. Poor design for a shoe.
After a few failed attempts to find a new, light weight winter boot, the Merrell Thermo Rogue came through with flying colors. This boot surpassed my expectations! They needed no break in time, comfy right of the box. My feet were toasty but not sweaty hot. And, the GRIP, wow, not one slip throughout a mixed terrain hike.
Doesn't quite match the hype. Wore these today just around the neighborhood on compact snow and ice. I was sliding around. These might be better than some boots, but I expected not to slide at all. My feet did stay warm in 18 degree weather with a pair of smartwool socks. Really comfortable boot. Nice boot, but if the grip had been better, the price would have been worth it.
These shoes are amazing of snow & ice. Provides good grip & is slip resistant. Buy larger than regular shoe size and it’s perfect for women. Not sure about the warmth / thermal aspect. But definitely waterproof.
