Amazing for families with real mnt bikes
If you have kid bikes that have real forks like the norco fluid mnt bikes then 20" or 24" bikes will fit no issues at all. Yakima is pretty upfront that this rack only works with full suspension bikes and I think most negative reviews are due to people trying putting hardtail or no suspension at all bikes on them. I can easily fit 1 size large DH bike, a large emtb and two kids 20" full suspension bikes on this rack with room to spare for more bikes on shuttle days. This rack fits great with the bikes over the back of the pick up bed as well keeping most of the weight more centered than probably any other hitch rack out there. It seems extremely well built and have taken up bikes up logging roads with no issues. I have and will recommend this rack to anyone with real full suspension bikes no matter the size or weight I know they say 35lbs per bike but having put some bikes much heavier than that on it I think that weight rating us very erring to the side of caution.

A weak copy of the Northshore
It is too week to handle big downhillers or ebikes (max bike weight is 37.5 lbs) and won't take kids bikes (<24"). Northshore's rack is rated to 50 lbs and takes our kids' Cleary 16" no problem. The rear wheel mount on the Yakima is easier at first (a clip vs a rope), but otherwise it's a knockoff. I'm glad I swapped out for the North Shore, while the Yakima was still returnable.

Super Rack - Granite Solid and Lots of Compliments

If you want a rack that holds your bikes AND attracts attention, this is it. Just got back from a long weekend to Yosemite and a day did not go by that someone gave us a compliment on this bike rack. Even the Ranger at the entrance said, "Awesome Bike Rack!" Keep in mind that this rack is made specifically for MTB with forks, although we were able to hang our 14 year old small Cannondale without much hassle as well (you can see it at the end of the rack on one of the pictures). We've driven 2,000 miles+ with this rack with no issues. The bikes hang straight and solid. Love the footpedal that allows you to lean the rack away from your truck as you load the bed. Legendary Yakima construction!

Did not hold up more than a month

Unfortunately this bike rack did not hold up at all. Only one month into using the rack we were driving home from the Mountain and the rubber attachment had torn without us knowing and the attachment at the top came undone and dropped the front of the bike. The bottom attachment held strong but the bike dragged on the road and tore it up. It was a brand new Santa Cruz High Tower btw. Needless to say, we were not pleased.

This thing is GREAT. Big family approved.

We were a little nervous when we started driving and it felt wobbly. It will sway a bit but we figured out that must be as expected as it is solid. We’re thrilled. The only bummer is how inaccessible it makes the trunk. That’s not the rack’s fault but somehow I didn’t think of that when I bought it. Highly recommend. We’re the coolest minivan on the highway.

Awesome rack for a family!

We've owned a Yakima HangOver 6 for two seasons now and use it on both a minivan (Toyota Sienna) and a 3/4 ton truck (Ram 2500) and even a little EV (Chevy Bolt). We absolutely love this thing! Easy to load, solidly holds bikes, and super quick to get them on and off. We generally keep the rack tilted one notch down to leave room for the front tires, and only in 90 degree mode when we don't have bikes on, which keeps it close to the car. We've recommended it to tons of people, it's a great conversation starter in parking lots, hah! We also put a 2" receive on our travel trailer, mainly to transport this rack on camping trips so we could use it on the truck once we set up camp.

almost

Bummed to find out the rack will NOT work for my kids bikes or city bike after getting it installed. Worked okay for my MTB but concerns about rub marks on my new Fox forks and the incompatibility with my family's bikes were not a good fit for us.

Dad

The primary purpose for purchasing this rack was the need to carry 5 bikes without scratching the bikes. This rack does that. We have it on the highest mast setting because we have it attached to a dodge caravan and need the ground clearance. It took some practice, but getting the bikes on and off is now not hard for me. We have 4 adult size bikes, all hardtail, with front suspension(which is a requirement). These bikes fit well. We also have a 24 inch specialized hot rock. This bike fits fine. The new version of this rack has 2 top straps. The one issue I had is getting the straps, which are spread in a V through the forks. I came up with a hack to use a hair tie hold them together so they fit through the fork. The construction is solid and using the foot release to tilt the rack is easy. I am happy with it.

Super easy to use once you get used to it!

I love how I can fit all of our bikes on this rack without having to adjust the seat posts! Hint: make sure your bike’s fork is installed in the rack correctly. If you have to strain the top straps, double check how you mounted the bike.

Dangerous design flaw

I had huge hopes for this rack, coming from a great brand. Unfortunately it has design flaws that are unsafe. When carrying DH bikes at speeds over 50mph or with a slight crosswind, the bikes tend to twist in the rack, almost 45 degrees, causing damage to the bikes, hitting each other and the rack itself. The foot lever is a great design but the rack is IMO unsafe and needs a redesign. Like others I returned mine quickly and went in a different direction.
