Great jacket. Had to mod a bit
I love this jacket, especially at the clearance price of $44. It's even better after a couple of modifications. I'm 5'10", 200#, and the XL has some room to spare for layers underneath. Sleeves are just a scootch long, but I like that, especially with the doubled/gaitered cuffs. I like the oversized neck gusset (when zipped), and the durability of the zippers all around. Real toothed zippers, not the coiled ones that break all the time. I also like the side zipper - makes getting into and out of this thing WAY easier. This will be excellent as an outer layer on campouts with the Scout troop in the Adirondacks this year. First mod: I replaced the wimpy white drawstrings with 550 reflector paracord, and added a couple of aluminum guyline stops to replace the fake leather originals. If I can upload a photo, I will. Might be too big. Because they're sewn in and can't be fully removed easily, I pulled the old cord out as far as I could, whipped the end of the paracord to it for about an inch with waxed twine, cut the remaining old cord off and then relaxed the tubular housing to cover the new cord. I did something similar for the waist cinch. Second mod: I'm going to Otter Wax the jacket so it's more than just "water resistant", as the description indicates. And voila! A really good jacket becomes an awesome one!
Hard to come by
In order to appreciate these you have to have worn the old military surplus anoraks that were effective, but frankly hideous and hard to come by. For 89$ get them while they’re around. Moderate shelter and protection and nice breath ability while still cutting the wind down. Anoraks have become popular recently and have costs from 150$-400$ for throwback reproductions like these. Anoraks really become a true treasure with a light waxing. I can’t wait to wax this one. Get one before they discontinue them.
versitile
I bought this for my boyfriend and he loves it, although I am not sure he has gotten to wear it yet because I love it too! Fits great and looks awesome! (on both of us!;) )
A "different" jacket
It's in definite need of waterproofing, but fits comfortably (true to size) and has a distinct look.
