Great tent
We absolutely love this tent. Plenty of room for 2 adults and 2 dogs. First time using it in April it stood up to a wicked storm. Heavy wind and driving rain.. no leaks. No issues at all. Just wish the rain fly covered both doors. But we solved that by buying the mud room which worked out great.

I wanted to love this tent!
Pros: Great looking tent, comfortable inside, lots of pockets, easy to carry. Cons: The included poles are not sufficient for a tent this large, in my opinion. When winds picked up for us, I was scared this was going to collapse. Better poles would go a long way. Also, the zippers on both doors kept getting stuck no matter what we did, incredibly frustrating at 2am when it’s dark. I told myself at 2am “I’m returning this tent” after spending several minutes trying to get the doors closed. Finally, the setup is cumbersome (very challenging with one person) and the included instructions are unclear, especially for step two. I guess I expected more from a tent in this price range.

Kingdom Tent

We have only put this tent up once since we got it. We love the size and function of the tent. Love how you can seperate the rooms. But unfortunately the tags that you stake into the ground are sewed into the tent itself not into the reinforced material, and will tear as soon as you step near one of them inside the tent as my daughter did while camping out in the back yard during our great lockdown. I'm sure this is a manufacturing flaw and wasnt designed like this. We are going to try to return it and get a new one or a differant tent not sure yet. REI has always backed it products thats why we shop there and I'm sure this will be no differant.

Pole broken

We got the tent in March 2017. We used it 4 times in normal weather (Florida) and 1 of the 3 poles broke (letting the rain come inside the tent at night). We call and the company sends only a free patch for the fabric and tells you to buy a new (same quality) from another company. $ 60 expense. They were nice on the phone but the service support is the worst. If I would've known I would still be using my Coleman and save me $ 500. How can I trust this tent again?

Decided to bring them back to Japan

Kingdom6 with mud room and porch was the nice combination ever. We had a Coleman tent and screen tarp but those are one everyone has and those were heavy and big to carry by my SUV. Kingdom6 was enough space for 4 of our family and we liked the separation screen in the room, though it was a simple one cloth. Mud room was lower height than my expectation but I 5-7’ (172cm) could stand. It was compact to carry out and I liked for putting chairs during night not to get wet. Then finally Kingdom porch was really nice. Easy to set up and could cover the dining table. 2 screens were enclosed and easy to set or remove it. One thing I want Rei to consider is to sell a net type of screen type. In the night many bugs came to light inside of porch. But I really liked them and decided to bring them back to Japan with me.

doesn't fit my living room!

Just got this tent on sale. I always hear to try building the tent at home before going camping to learn how to set it up. Well... it didn't fit in my living room! Had to move my dinner table and, even then, it barely fit. This tent was easy to setup though. Lessons learned: 1) Must unzip all doors before taking down tent. (protects from breakage) 2) Must use velcro straps to bundle tent poles (they only come with rubber bands) 2) Should live somewhere with more space. It's a shame the Y pole connector is now just a piece of plastic, whereas in previous models it was a solid piece of aluminum. Also noticed without the fly, there is no away to attach guy lines to the poles of the tent. Another thing, there are two philosophies when it comes to packing away your tent. - Stuff it in its bag any way you can. Or, - Fold it neatly. I am a subscriber to the second option. I realized REI does not provide instructions (at least none that I've found) on how to fold and put away you tent. So I created instructions for each part. Basically, as I unfolded the tent for the first time, I sketched each step, then reversed them to be able to fold the tent just like how it was done at the factory (ensures a perfect fit in the backpack). I will print them in high resolution photo paper, have them laminated in thick material, and bind them with a keychain ring. That way I can stuff them in the tent backpack and take them with me. (I have high-rez images of each.)

Great big old tent

First a caveat, this tent needs a walkthrough before you put it up. It’s not something you want to roll out in the dark with kids and figure out lol. However, I did a backyard walk through and once you do it’s pretty straight forward. You may be smarter than me and pitch it first time in the dark and rain like a champion. I am glad I did a dry run. The kids (and me) give it two thumbs up. It’s huge. The two rooms is nice. Great wide open view of the stars. Lots of pockets and straps to hang things. With some good blankets, nice sleep pads and lights it’s like a hotel. My only complaint is there’s no plumbing lol. Well it is slow to set up first time, should go fast after the knowledge base is in Overall I really feel it’s a good value for the money, well made, thought out well, I recommend it

Best Tent I Own

So far I've only been able to test it out in my yard and I happy with it. This is a great tent for relaxed camping. It has plenty of room on the inside. I'm 68" tall and I could stand up inside. I have a full-size air mattress and it was enough space inside to walk around and store our bags without it feeling too cramped. Although, the Kingdom 8 would be a little more comfortable if you want to store more than just your bags or have more people. I also have the mud room and porch attachments so we can put our gear in those. It has mesh pockets that run the length of the tent on both sides. This was a great feature because we stored all of our clothes and the equipment bags in them.

Design Flaw / Poor Quality

You can see the design flaw in their own product photo: the fabric being pulled too tightly where the poles meet the ground. This causes any light pressure to tear the fabric, as mentioned by a few previous posters. I wish I'd listened! We saw the tightness and pulling when putting the tent up and decided we'd just be careful in those areas... it was like we saw what was going to rip before it happened. We put a hand on the ground by the area and sure enough, RIP! Keep in mind we were not acting reckless or leaning on the wall, just putting a hand on the tent floor. That should not break a $500 tent. The photos should speak for themselves. The fabric appears to be reinforced on the ground piece but not on the wall piece. A huge shame for how excited we were about this for family camping, given its size. Now that stores are closed we have to go through the hassle of returning in a different state to an open store, (hopefully they LET us return, since it's a major manufacturing/design flaw,) or paying to ship back. The stakes are also already showing wear after one use for a 2 night camping trip, which doesn't hinder the use of the product but also doesn't speak highly for its quality. Please do not buy this tent, (sounds like there are pole issues too, although I can't speak to those as ours were fine,) until they rehaul their quality control and design.

Not good in high winds

Photos below are the result of high wind gusts from a nearby storm while camping in CO. I would estimate the wind gusts were somewhere between 30 and 45mph. It was properly pitched and guyed out but the aluminum poles aren't strong enough to withstand high winds. Some reviews mention REI not accepting their damaged tent for return, that what not my case, I was able to return it for full refund but fully prepared to stand my ground and demand a refund if necessary. Note to REI stores not refunding this tent; High winds are NOT an "accident" they can be expected in certain areas of the country. It would help if REI did more extensive testing of these tents before selling them.

Good, but not excellent tent. Poor instructions.

A lot of reviews have focused on the tent and its good qualities (comfort, pockets, materials etc). Generally I would say in those areas I'm happy with my purchase. I'm going to focus on two other aspects: how it performed during a storm, and the (lack of) information about how to properly stake and guy out the tent in the instructions. The Good: I’m happy to back up the positive things mentioned by other reviewers. The tent is spacious and well mad. The storage bag is well-designed and there is enough space to add extra bits and pieces. I wish the straps were padded so it can be carried a little more comfortably but the intention is clearly that this tent be pitched not far from your car. The Not So Good: Once you have successfully managed to do it once, putting up the tent is easy. But! The instructions are unclear and there is, amazingly, still no official video on how to do it. The key is to connect the two thicker struts from the Y hubs by pushing them through the large loop on top of the inner tent. Once you have done this and lifted it up, the tent takes shape and it should be plain sailing. There are spelling and typing mistakes in the printed instructions too. The Bad: Following on from the lack of clear instructions about how to pitch the tent, there is absolutely no information at all on where to attach the guy lines! There are 6 obvious loops; 3 on either side of the rain fly. But other reviewers have said that this is only sufficient for a basic pitch and you could add up to 8 more guy lines. But where? The instructions don’t even depict the 6 guy lines you can set up which come with the tent. Given that this tent is vulnerable to wind, and that guy lines are instrumental in protecting tents from wind, this omission is glaring. I have removed 1 star from my rating as a result of this. Rainstorm Performance: Now I have one more observation I cannot neatly pin down to any of these categories. Two weekends ago I took the tent out for its first night on Sai Wan beach in Hong Kong. I was incredibly unlucky that an unforecast black category rainstorm (the most severe and the first in 3 years!) decided to arrive unannounced in the middle of the night. How did the tent do? Well, it survived. The rain was absolutely Biblical - around 200mm fell in the time the tent was up apparently, and, apart from some drips from the vents, it stayed dry inside. Ah yes, the vents. Very difficult to properly open or close, even from the outside, due to the curvature of the tent. However, despite the severity of the rainfall, this did not lead to much leakage. A few small drops here and there occasionally was acceptable. The tent poles? Well about 40% of the sections on the support poles were bent in some way. The main hubbed poles only got bent in 1 single section. I am not an expert on how far a pole can be bent before it is liable to breaking, but some sections were bent to around 30 degrees. The tent did stay up, however, which is obviously definitely a plus! How strong were the winds? I reckon around 20mph for the most part, with perhaps the odd gust here and there. I certainly didn’t notice any strong winds when I went outside a few times to check the guy lines. I have had to order two new poles from Rei’s recommended company. I am a little disappointed that winds which I wouldn’t describe as particularly powerful were able to bend so many sections of the tent, despite 6 guy lines being in place, after using the tent just once. This experience makes me wary about using this tent when there is any wind at all and explains why I removed the second star from my rating. Overall I would recommend the tent, but it’s a qualified recommendation. If you can guarantee there won’t be any or much wind, the tent is great. Otherwise you do run the risk of running repairs on bent poles.
