Bought another two…

I have been using the 18L and the 21L versions, in black, for years now - finally pulled the trigger and bought my twin 8yo boys one each of the 21L version for school and EDC, also in black. As a 100% disabled combat veteran I have to stay active or I’m back in the wheelchair, since this is not an option I walk around town while the trolls are in school. My regular loop I take at least 5 days a week is exactly 6.2 miles and my regular day-to-day load out is about 14lbs. I use the 18L for dry/warmer weather and the bigger 21L for wet/colder days, just to fit some extra clothes and a pair of socks. These packs are NOT something I would take on a hike but, for everyday use to get from A to B (work, school etc) with your everyday stuff…there’s nothing better. Do yourself a favor and get one for yourself, you will not be disappointed.

Cool carnivorous alien design, but meh for EDC

As you'd expect from Mystery Ranch, the build quality is excellent and the suspension system downright dreamy. The pack does a great job of keeping your laptop higher up on your back. The pack keeps its shape under load of 2 laptops, so you don't have a pack that looks all saggy like some middle schooler's book bag. That's all good. The not-so-great: The bag really needs 2 more interior pockets to be useful for EDC. You've got a laptop power adapter, pens/writing utensils, swipe cards, all of which should have a pocket, plus a pocket or two for the miscellaneous stuff you need to carry around. The two interior mesh pockets don't have enough room and as mesh are a little flimsy. The top pocket also would have benefitted from a stiff fabric back rather than mesh. The zipper system that opens like some carnivorous alien's mouth, in day-to-day use just isn't great. It's easy to pull open, but a pain in the butt to close--you need to tug on 3 zippers instead of just one--and the main vertical zipper has a tendency to stick.

Great pack, one caveat

Really like this pack but the top zippered (external) pouch is a bit annoying to use- There is an internal plastic support sheet that runs from the bottom all the way up to the very top of the bag- this makes it difficult to get into the top pouch bc everything is so tight- wish it could be redesigned to be about 2 or 3” shorter to allow for much easier access
