Columbia  Silver Ridge Convertible Pants - Men's

The stitching on both pair of convertible pants I purchased failed miserably. One pair arrived with no stitching on the bottom of the rear pocket rendering it useless. The other rear pocket has now also come unattached. The crotch on both pair have failed and I've had to mend them. I thought Columbia stood for quality, now that perception is also frayed. We will see if it's beyond repair.

I've had these pants for about 3 months and have only worn them about 6 times. I was going camping the other day and had my cell phone in the left zipper pocket. My phone kept falling out and I noticed there was a hole in the pocket. It looks like the stitching on that particular pocket just sort of came apart. I've never snagged the pocket on anything and I have always followed the proper care instructions when washing. They could be a great pair of pants if better care was taken when manufacturing them. I'll see if I can return them and get something else.

These hiking pants are nice light weight pants which is what I wanted to replace a very similar pair that lasted me 15 years and can still be worn. However, after hiking for a year now in these, I've identified very easily what I do NOT like about them and that is the pocket linings. In my old pair, I had solid pocket linings all around which stood the test of time after 15 years of use. This new paid here had pocket linings that are very easily torn because they are made of lightweight meshed (maybe for air flow?) material which can easily tear after moderate use or even easier, tear if you catch a pointy object (keys, etc.) on them when inserting them in your pocket. I have one pocket already torn through and have to be very careful about the others and what I put in them. I would not buy these pants again solely because of the weak pocket linings. We're hikers, we put things in our pockets. Those pocket linings need to be strong and durable like my last pair which lasted me 15 YEARS. Maybe I should start using them again, even IF they are faded!

I can't recommend these pants. I have worn the pants manybe 30 nights backpacking and washed them 5 times. The stitching is coming out in multiple places. I feel like this purchase was a complete waste of money.

Bought these pants for my son to thru hike the Tahoe Rim Trail. These pants lasted approximately 3 days. There were holes inside every pocket. The stitching came apart on the backside of the pants. Very poor quality. Will never buy this brand again.

I had a pair of these I purchased 5 years ago that I wore 3-5 times a WEEK for years and they are still going strong. So I ordered 2 pairs expecting the same results. The new pairs are slightly different (they have a softer waste band) but they do not wear well. I have only worn the new pairs 3-4 times a MONTH for the last year and they both have stitching coming apart on the same rear pocket(I don't keep my wallet in that pocket). Very sad since I loved my original ones (and still wear them often). The photos are from the 2 new pair

Got 3 of these Columbia pants. All have the same problem: the back pockets are formed by stitching a patch of mesh material to the inside of the fabric seat of the pants. The stitching comes off, because many of the stitches are at the holes in the mesh and therefore don't attach the mesh to the fabric of the pants at all. Then, when the mesh separates from the pants, you have a big hole in the pocket. Almost lost my wallet, but luckily felt it sliding down the inside of the trouser leg. Upon examining the other two pants, I discovered they all have this condition on both the left and right back pockets (even though I never even use the left back pocket). Additionally, the belt loops are not optimized. There are only three widely-spaced belt loops in the back, which results in the waistband of the pants pulling below the belt when bending over. Better quality convertible pants have more belt loops in the back, including two loops or a single wide belt loop in the middle back, with the adjacent belt loops fairly closely spaced. Very disappointing, after spending $180.00 for three pairs of these pants. This experience really tarnishes the Columbia brand, in my opinion.

Within the past year, Columbia has changed the fabric used for the upper and back pockets. It's a more wide-open mesh now. I keep my comb in the back pocket and it's frequently getting snagged on the material. I am concerned that I'll soon have holes in the pockets. This was not a problem with the fabric that was used previously. I'm not sure if I'd recommend this product because of this flaw.

Comfortable zip off. Breathable and lightweight. Can zip off and have shorts, or full leg protection from getting scratched up on trail. 3 season. Good fit on 36 waist/30 inseam. My 3rd pair.

I bought two pairs of these. On one, both back pockets have ripped; one to the point where a wallet will fall right through. On the other, it appears some of the stitching is coming loose on one pocket. I bought these in May of this year. They are comfortable, but at $60/each, having multiple pockets fail within 5 months is just unacceptable. At least one other reviewer indicates a similar problem. Somehow their customer service does not realize that I want sturdy items, not spending my time returning stuff
