Have used several times a month for just over a year on day hikes 12 to 16 miles. Shorter hikes I use a smaller much lighter pack. For more remote all-day long hikes in the back country Zulu 30 has the space to carry extra essentials and does so very comfortably. Rim 2 Rim Grand Canyon as a one-nighter and the Zulu 30 was a perfect fit.
I was originally going to purchase a Osprey backpack like the one I purchased my husband but I did not like the colors. This one was the best choice. Great for hiking and rain cover is a plus. Super comfortable that makes it worth every penny.
The pack is great if you need a lot of space for gear. 30L will have you covered for even the longest day trip and many overnighters for the ultralight backpackers out there. It is a super comfortable pack and has a ton of good storage. Pros: - stretchy front and side pockets can store a ton of gear - super ventilated back panel keeps the sweat off - durable Cons: - the main zipper can be a little finicky with the off-centre alignment - it's heavy for a day pack - I would have liked to see a 20 L version of this pack Overall, if you need a big day pack with lots of storage, this pack is the best out there in my opinion.
I've had this pack for about five months. It's been with me up the Grand, to the pool with the family, and everywhere in between. I carried climbing gear, food, and water for two, up the Upper Exum Ridge. The pack was loaded to the brim. Very heavy, but the moment I tossed it on my back, it sat like a feather. Mobility was not compromised and not once did it move out of place during our climb and descent.
I’ve owned this pack for over two years and use it for both hiking and biking. Lots of room for a large hydration bladder, rain gear, lunch, etc. My wife has a small biking pack so I usually carry any extra gear and clothes. Majority of the load is carried on the hips, so no significant shoulder or back fatigue. Side pockets are great for quick access. Hiking pole storage loops are a plus when biking the approach to a hike and can fit two sets of poles. After two years of use I have not had any issues with durability.
Purchased the pack to do a 2 day completion of the 93 mile Wonderland Trail around Mount Rainier. It was a little heavy for those long days, but even after 17 hours of wear the first day I didn't have any hot spots and the weight continued to be distributed comfortably across my shoulders and waist. If you set up the side and above shoulder straps properly you can get the pack really locked into place at hike/run at a good clip with effectively no bouncing. 30L capacity is all relatively accessible/useful and while the internal frame is a bit heavy it does a good job of keeping weight distributed and your back cool.
Great product. Used it in a 13 mile hike in Oregon in June 2023.
Amazing Gregory 30 l blue pack
I looked around and settled on this pack for hiking 14ers and maybe light camping. I like the build quality a lot and the padding on the straps and hip belt are really good. I’m 6’2” with a long upper torso. The fact this pack could be adjusted up and down is a huge win for me. There is no side zipper to get into the main pouch. I looked inside and out and there isn’t one. That isn’t a big deal for me but on some of the other comments I’ve read, people disagreed about this. I have two minor complaints about the pack. First is the inside and outside pocket. They zip open and closed fine but they are really small. The outside pocket fits my gloves and a beanie. After that, it presses the inside pocket tight and you can’t fit much in there. Second complaint is something I fixed. The bottom portion of the trekking pole holder is a cinch strap design. It’s hard to use if you have gloves on or if you have poor dexterity in your fingers. I tied off a Nite Ize gear tie to the area and problem solved. The main compartment of the pack is really nice. Just to try it out, I put my Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL3 tent, Big Agnes Sidewinder Camp 20 degree sleeping bag, and Big Agnes Air Core Ultra 25x72 sleeping pad inside. It was a tight fit and it made the inside and outside pockets worthless but hey, science. The outside air pocket still fit my rain jacket. Another thing I really like is how the frame supports a 3 liter water bladder. I still use one especially on long hikes. I don’t feel any pushing on my back when the bladder is full and there is gear in the pack. Overall, good pack and I can’t wait to use it this summer on a few 14er trips.
Got this for my husband. He loves it! We just started day hiking and he needed an actual bag (so I didn't have to carry all of his food!). This holds so much. I also got him the 3D Reservoir. This bag is holding up nicely and is comfortable. He likes that he was able to adjust it for his height/torso length. That part was easy (velcro is the way it's secured) and its holding nicely. Looking forward to many more trips with this pack!
