Patagonia to NYC then crisscrossed America ... an all around amazing boot. Had mine for about a year now and couldn’t be happier. Just purchased a pair for one of my hiking partners for the Holidays.
Purchased two pair of Merrell Ontario, one for myself and one for my son, for our trip to Iceland. First four days were hikes in dry weather and everything was great. Fifth day of the trip we went on a five mile hike in light misting rain. Ten minutes in started to feel wet. Thirty minutes in completely soaked. This is not an issue with the tongue or water leaking in through the tongue area. The boots absorbed the water. 100% not waterproof. Unfortunately no way to dry these out at the moment so the next few days we’re going to live with wet stinky feet. Sorry Merrell love most of your stuff but this product is not up to your standards.
Amazing lightweight boots keeping me dry during my hike after a rainstorm dropped 2 inches of rain on the trails. The boots are very comfortable, starting with how light they are, followed by the Vibram with mega grip soles. Throughout my 2 hour hike I had these boots submerged more than once crossing small streams with rocks without slipping and no hesitation, my confidence in my foot hold grew throughout the day. The sole with the rolled toe prevents catching on rocks and roots, with a nice embedded toe cap keeps the toes safe. With the smaller lugs on the mid sole the grip was decent on wet terrain, deeper mud had some slippage, but manageable. Overall these are impressive boots for how well they handled the wet conditions and kept my hike enjoyable.
Out of the box and into a 5 mile hike down to the lake shore. Fantastic comfort, Stood in the lake and let the boots get splashed in the shore waves. Very Water proof out of the box. You have to love the easy lacing as it can be a real pain when you look for laces that do not even fit the rings. This company makes it easy. I also noticed an increase in traction immediately compared to my more expensive boots and this was really noticeable.
These are amazing hiking boots. I've never had a pair that was this light. It's almost like a running shoe. I hiked with these in Bryce Canyon NP in lots of snow and ice with micro spikes on and had zero issues. The boots waterproof capabilities served me well and I found them to be plenty warm in 25-30 F with wool socks on. I also hiked with these around Zion and to Angel's Landing and the grip was really good. Aside from being really comfortable and supportive, another bonus is that they look really sharp! I wear size 12 with Nike and ordered these in 12 and the fit was perfect for me.
So I put roughly 8 miles and 4,500 feet of vertical on these this last weekend to break them in, and I've got to say I'm impressed. Very comfortable, lightweight, durable boots. I don't know if these would be my first choice on a day where it gets hotter than 85 degrees, but on my ascent of Table Mountain, they did quite nicely. Lots of ankle support really made me feel a lot more confident on the more chossy parts of the hike, and the soles can grab and stick to just about any surface, wet or dry. I've got to say, I love these boots! Mine in the picture are a little darker because I used some leather treatment on them. Personally I like them better that way, but if you want the lighter brown, probably avoid leather conditioners. Overall here is what I would rate everything: Ankle Support: 10/10 Comfort: 8/10 Traction: 9/10 Waterproofing: 10/10 Weight: 9/10 You really can't beat the performance at this price point, and they look awesome. I got mine for $130 on sale. I'll be updating this review after a few more hikes to let you know how durable they are after a year or so.
This is a really great quality boot. The uppers are made of a nice suede, that deals with water well. The soles are very tacky and provide great traction. I also really appreciated the wide toe box, which made them comfortable right out of the box. The only downside is that there isn’t a great deal of ventilation, so I wouldn’t recommend them for summer hiking in hot temperatures. But for the fall, spring, and winter it works well.
Took these on an 80-mile hike in the Scottish Highland. Was very impressed with how the boots stayed waterproof in very very wet conditions. The shoes were very light (compared to similar hiking boots). The soles were a bit more flexible and less structured than other boots, but definitely had enough cushion to ease your feet from feeling the rocks and bumps on the road. Walked through shallow streams, muddy puddles, rocky hills and steep slopes. The boots kept my feet dry and blister-free after 4 days of 20-mile hikes.
When I tell you these are the greatest shoes I have ever put on my feet, I am not exaggerating. I’ve had mine for a few years now and they are the most bulletproof shoes ever. Water proof, form fitting, great ankle protection, good grip. If I could wear a single pair of shoes for the rest of my life, it would be these
These are incredible. True to size (I wear 10 in Asics Kayano, 10 in Adidas Ultra Boost), super light and the soles are Vibram, and very good looking, can be worn w/ jeans out or on the trail.
